I'd still rather we sign some young (or at least younger) up and comer from the lower leagues. These tend to have worked better for us in the past.

We have Dominic Samuel, our very own young striker who is proven at a lower level.

Can I add 'not injury prone' to my criteria above?

Fezza Not sure why people are against this!

- He is used to playing as the centre part of a front three for his country, somewhere we are very short of cover - where he has been prolific - if against "weaker" teams (Sudan, Angola and England).

- He averages a goal every 215 minutes in both the Premier League and Serie A, two of the toughest leagues on Earth. If he did that for us he'd be getting around the 20 goal mark, something we haven't seen for a number of years!

This

He fits right into our current shape plus has valuable experience of scoring goals at any level in several countries. Plus he is his country's record goalscorer, has played in 3 world cups and scored 6 goals.

Someone offered him crazy money to go and play in the middle east and he took it, can't blame him for that, and its not like he did badly there, averaging more than a goal a game is a great record in any competitive league. Looks as though he hasn't settled as well in China but that isnt exactly unusual.

Now it appears he is hungry to play at a better level again and happy to earn less money to do so, and if he joins he won't even have to do that as he will still be paid his full 225k per week salary, and I doubt we're going to be paying very much of that.

Looks like this is virtually a done deal anyway and I hope it is. Would be icing on the cake for this summer and a great way to round off an excellent transfer window.

Lacoste
Hogmeister Royal I see the press are saying Fulham were also interested, but couldn't afford his wages. Which makes it an exact parallel with Pog, in that Fulham couldn't afford him at the time either.

Anyone getting a feeling of deja vu here?

I don't think we should sign him mainly because if he wasn't a footballer he would be trying to get your credit card details and would be on every scam going, he's that type of character. He could easily disrupt team harmony and is generally a bad egg.

But to say it's like the pog deal is laughable. It's a year loan for ffs so at worst he'all be gone in a year so if the owners believe they can aford him for a season then so be it.

Not like we'll be stuck with him for three.

I'm interested as to why you said this, and if there are any other footballers you feel fall into that bracket?

 Please can we stop having all this negativity on virtually every potential signing we make

At least let them get through the door and play a few games before slating them

You never know, acting with a bit more positivity might help improve things for the club on and off the field

Certainly the players concerned are going to feel more like "getting up in the morning" if there's positivity around EVERYONE whether fan or club employee

Just because people have different views and maybe string views doesn't make hem a wum.

I would put Kone at Sunderland in the same bracket FYI.

"I'd like to sign a younger player"

- we have plenty of those that either aren't ready, are made of glass, or haven't yet adapted.

- Gyan is only 30*. It's hardly over the hill.

- Proven track record, in this system.

- Good goals to games ratio.

- Apparently according to Sunderland fans he's a good player to have in the dressing room "an infectious personality". So I'm happy to give benefit of doubt to the off field stuff.

- Having a player of his experience, reputation and stature could help the likes of Domz, Mendes, etc in the longer run. We all say "who better to help develop" Moore, Blackett etc as he's been there and done that. What says Gyan couldn't or wouldn't do that for our younger and newer signings?

*carbon dating pending.

Well, he's supposedly replacing Rakels,

Rakels, has played 94 minutes so far this season. 81 in the first game, subbed off. Subbed on for 13 in the second, didn't get off the bench in the 3rd and not in the squad for Brighton (+ injured for Cardiff).

Only played the full 90 last 4 games of last season, (3 losses and a draw), subbed on/off a further 8 games.

3 goals in 14 games.

I guarantee if we get him he'll feature more and have higher goals/games ratio.

Uh-oh!!!!! Word I’m getting is the Gyan deal is off.

He has not passed his medical as the club believe it will be up to eight weeks before he is deemed fully fit.

More to follow.
