LightwaterRoyal
linkenholtroyal If we are suddenly a spending big side
and get Wells and Aluko
Could we have Mulgrew and Caulker as well.
Mulgrew reminds me of Ian Harte and that is never a bad thing. has a trick or 2, can pass the ball and is a hard hitting defender / defensive mid
Caulker because when Cooper goes that leaves us very exposed if we go back to playing as a back 5. He seems to be loaned out every season by QPR. The only problem may be wages.

I've wanted us to sign Charlie Mulgrew every window since Ian Harte (Lord and Saviour) left.
Almost as good at free kicks and would cover LB, CB and CDM

I doubt fee would be massive either.
I'm sure some other teamhad bid 200k but can't think who.
A cheeky 300k bid maybe worth a look.

Snowflake Royal Because wealth is a measure of success. Because wages are a measure of their value and pecking order. Because people are rarely satisfied with what they've got.

Why do the rich continue to make money and become super rich? Because they want more. It's lovely that you're the sort of person who is so clearly not motivated by money that you can't seem to comprehend a different view, but like I said, naive. Why do you think wages are so high? Because players want more. Always more. Why do you think the likes of Rooney have been on £400,000 a week or whatever ludicrous sum it is. They don't need it, they're already rich.

OK I'm clearly not expressing myself very well. Obviously a lot of wealthy people (including footballers) are motivated by making money regardless of how much they already have but to presume all wealthy people (including footballers) are motivated by making money regardless of how much they already have is much more naive than what I'm suggesting.

There are countless other reasons an already wealthy, 33 year old footballer, who has not to my knowledge been in premier league demand would join a football club.

To be perfectly candid:
I stated in my first post the move is unlikely.
I acknowledged he would probably have higher wage demands than perhaps we would be prepared to go for.
I have not said that rich people are unmotivated by obtaining riches.

For you to genuinely think there is no reason a wealthy footballer in the latter part of his career would be enticed into joining a smaller club for anything other than money is an incredibly cynical outlook on the world.

Weren't we linked to Alfred Finnbogason a few years ago?

Now he is a player I'd like to see here.

Would we have a chance of signing Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough?

Patrick Bamford

by linkenholtroyal » 02 Aug 2017 11:09

I have just read an article regarding this so i thought i would see what everyone else thinks.
Long and short of the article is that Bamford has fallen down the pecking order at Middlesborough and could be the perfect fit for Reading.
His last full season in the championship he scored 17 in 39 and at 23 he fits the mould of young and hungry that Stam seems to be basing his squads on.
I have never taken much notice of him TBH but sounds like a good fit. was brought by Borough for 5.5 million so not sure what the fee would be.
As a foot note there is another article saying we should be looking at Rogic from Celtic. I beleive we have been linked before.

Anyone have any Thoughts?

Bamford was never going to make it in the Prem and then Boro ruined him.

Was great at Derby etc and scored lots of goals.

You would assume that Boro would want rid and could come at a good price, as long as they haven't over paid him.

A young player with something to prove - I would take him at under 3m

Better that than the forum being cluttered with every helmet's idea of a good signing

Boro fans still think he'll play this season and will be worth £20m+ soon. So I don't think we'd stand a chance.

Johan Djourou. Free agent, would be worth signing to beef up our defence

I must have missed the vote. Agreed on your original point though. The board is often cluttered by people starting a whole new thread on an argument/topic from another thread.
"Were selling all our players" opinion thread for example.

Yes, yes and yes again. Would love this to be true. Always rated Bamford and think he would fit in, whatever formation we play. Bamford for £5m or Wells for £10m, hmm. I really hope Stam is all over this like a cheap suit.

He won't get a sniff in the Prem and would be better suited to Championship, guess he's on pretty decent money there so he may stick it out ..
