bluerinse Brighton have had a £8m bid for Aston Villa defender James Chester rejected. This implies that they cannot reach an agreement with Reading on a fee for Liam Moore, and are looking elsewhere. Maybe he will be staying at RFC.

If it isn't Brighton it will be someone else. Moore is reasonably affordable and good enough to start in any of the lower half Premier League teams. Reading would be wise to tout him around as we could significantly improve our squad with the transfer money.

"Good enough to start in any of the lower half Premier League teams"
Do you seriously believe what you have posted?
After the season he has just had I really do feel that if we get £3million for him we will have done well.
I think you may be blinkered by his previous season which, apart from being one of 2 players to cost the club £100 million plus by blasting that penalty way over the bar,he played consistently all season-last year he looked a shadow of his former self and was bullied too easily and too often by Championship strikers.

He may well get back to how he was but was he then just a top Championship defender rather than an obvious Premier League player in waiting?
Presumably Brighton think he is worth £3million as a squad and back-up player and their assessment could be about right although , with all the dosh burning holes in Premier League clubs' pockets, we may well get more than that and hopefully won't squander the money on wages for any more dead-beat geriatrics but , as others have reminded us, ours is a club that splashed out a small fortune on Aluko so the judgement of players is questionable.

Moore had a dodgy mid season spell but was impressive during the run in. I think he is good enough for the PL and worth a darn sight more than £3 million in the current climate. Brighton appear to have accepted this with a second bid which was also rejected.

Yeah, he's both incredibly obviously worth more than £3m by a mile and also clearly not good enough to just waltz into any bottom half PL defence

Yes now we have O Shea we don’t need Moore. 5 million will be a great bit of business along with McShane that will gives us The oldest slowest centre back pairing in Champions history!

I totally agree! It’s gonna be amazing watching the oppositions young pacey stikers, wingers and midfielders. Tearing our defence apart quicker then you can say the word shambles.

Reading are getting lead down a long straight road downward if we sell Moore.

If O’shea Has come into the club to teach our young players to defend the why didn’t we just sign him as a defensive coach? Also if he was at Sunderland coaching the young talent there? WHY HAVE SUNDERLAND BEEN RELEGATED TWICE IN TWO SEASONS!

No one actually thinks O'Shea will play regularly or is a preemptive Moore replacement though, right?

I mean, you'd have to be a dribbling simpleton to think that.

Having also signed Yiadom and Meyler, maybe we don't attach much relevance to where a team finishes when evaluating its players. Are Brighton doing the same as they assess Liam Moore?

Difference between them though is that Liam clearly is a stand out player in our team. None of the players that we have signed (maybe bar Yiadom) was the best player in failing teams. Moore is premier league quality. So why not keep him on and get him to the premier league with us?

I'm sure that's exactly what we're trying, but there's really no route to the Premier League with us in clear sight for Moore, so you couldn't blame him if he wanted to go somewhere already there, or with a better chance than us.

He joined us two seasons ago when let’s face it we didn’t look like a team that would finish in the play offs nine months later having had two poor seasons on the trot. He just wanted first team football. If he joins Brighton that’s not guaranteed which just might mean he stays with us. Unlikely that he will stay but you never know.

We'd come off the back of financial problems and were being talked up by owners who appeared to have money and an exciting new manager to work with. There was a clear plan and desire to be promoted within three years. Since he joined, his chances of going up with us have gone backwards. He's two years older, with two years less of his career to play. Yes he joined us to get first team football, but also to get first team football in the Premier League down the line.

It's gone quiet on this rumour. Over a week since any contact. Hopefully that's the end of it.

To be fair, Yiadom was one of Barnsley's better players and Meyler was one of Hull's key players, but he and Adkins didn't get on.

Is Brighton a good move for him? He left the then reigning champions because he didn't want to sit on a bench and surely the Brighton bench isn't that attractive?

Burnley would be a good shout for him. Dyche would probably improve him and if his current lot keep playing the way they do they will need a new CB soon enough. I could see him actually thriving there.

They have Ben Mee and Tarkowski. Can't see him getting past them, not any time soon anyway. I really think he'd suit Wolves personally.

thought West Ham.

tbh, sure he believes in himself enough to get in any team outside the top 6. He is 25 now, no point waiting around any longer if he wants another crack at the Prem
