paultheroyal This is a done deal, finances are not an issue (well they are but resolved in July) - this will get over the line as we hit early July.

This man is itk.

Ever thought of working at the Reading post, Paul?

interesting. And will it be followed by further signings?

Would be more than happy with Oliveira, but the GK, CM and CB positions are far more urgent imo. Can't believe we'd spend any budget we may have on a striker alone

I'm assuming we'll get in a couple of loans which will also come through fairly soon

Football account reporting periods end 30th June. We are under this soft embargo as there is clearly a concern that we may breach the FFP limits if we spend more money (without bringing some in) before this date.

As of end of 2017/18, our 3 year rolling losses were -31m. As of July 1st, the 2015/16 loss of 15m drops off the calculation - our 2 year loss is then 25.6m, so we can swallow a 2018/19 loss of 13.3m and still meet the rules. We must be close to this hence the lack of movement.

Bigger issues are:

the 2016/17 loss was only 4.6m which doesn't give a lot of wiggle room for 2019/20 (assuming we are close to FFP this year) to ensure we meet FFP at the end of this upcoming season plus our wages to income ratio stands at nearly 200% which is unsustainable and needs to be reduced. So throughout July we will hopefully see incomings but still expect outgoings to try and lower the wage bill and ensure we are not in a worse position next summer.

It was actually profit wasn't it. The 4 .6 in 16/17. Which is even worse

You are right, misread the profit as loss. So the 2 years before this we have lost circa 16m. So if we have lost close to 23m this year, we need to make a profit this.

My hope is January made 18/19 less bad than 17/18, so down from -£20m ish to -£15m ish seems reasonable.

Might explain why Gourlay was delaying so much over Moore's contract... panicking and trying to keep costs down without admitting how much he'd oxf*rd up.

But anyway, if it is in the £15-18m territory, we've basically got to almost break even this season. Which from -£15m is a helluva tall order. If we got last season down to closer to -£10m we're in a much better state as we only need to bring it down another 2-3 mil. But I fear the soft embargo and our current caution suggests it was a fair bit higher than £10m.

A cup run or PO (fat chance) campaign would do wonders for us. Nice juicy draw and replay with Utd, City or Liverpool.

Norwich have just signed a new Swiss international striker from Germany, so that knocks Oliveira even further down the pecking order.

Hopefully, the further down he goes the pecking order, the more likely the want and urgency to do so by Norwich to get him off their books will be..time will tell

Reckon we prob lost 10m ish last year, but that did include brining in 6m for Ilori and Bacuna

So we probably need to cut 10m from the wage bill (the released players should help that) and sell another 5-6m worth of player

Could really do with Renhe snapping up Aluko for a hefty fee

Assuming we have lost 10m this season then that would see us looking at an FFP rolling loss of 26m over 3 years which would see us meet the requirements for this period comfortably. However, that doesn't really fit with us apparently only having a soft embargo until 1st July.

This is because we lose the profit from the calculation for the end of 19/20. So if it is 10m, we go into the next accounting window with a loss of just over 30m already - meaning we can only afford to lose less than 9m this season and meet the FFP rules. It's possible the embargo is there to minimise the losses from this season to give us more wiggle room in the next and more chance to meet the limit and avoid a points deduction for the 2020/21 season.

Under the rules, we have to have given the Football League a projection of our profit/loss for this season by 1st March so we will already have been audited for the 3 year period including the season just gone, so maybe the loss is greater than 10m - if so we could be in big trouble next summer.

as ever, depends on who we can sell/get rid of without having to pay up

I am a little surprised we've got no-one bar Ward out of the door yet

The soft embargo is a slightly strange one - if we made 4.6 in 16/17, lost 20 in 17/18, we'd have had to have lost almost 25m this past season to be actually breaking the rules. Can't see we lost that much

It's probably a case of "who wants to buy them?"

Knowing Gourlay, the likes of Meyler and Baldock are probably on far too much money.

With Meite, Bod, Loader and McNulty we're probably ok given we're only trying to fight off relegation again.

Now as I'm a bit out of touch I expect to be told some or all of the above have been offloaded. :(

no doubts they are

Wonder what would have happened had Gourlay not been sacked when he was. Really wouldn't have been pretty, even if we'd avoided relegation.

If we’re paying them anything at all, it’s far too much.

It reads very much to me as projection that with the loss of the profit from the rolling period, unless we take drastic action for the coming season we will absolutely fail FFP during 19/20. But we're ok for the most recent period.

Norwich wanting him to go has never been an issue. Our ability to pay his salary is, and remains so.
