As mentioned he is relatively small just like Baldock and NcNulty. If we play a lone striker role he is going to struggle. No thanks.

In the nicest possible way, this rumour needs to oxf*rd off and die.

Always struck me as a poor man's Billy Sharp-similar build but not as good.
Not excited about this rumour but we are now shopping at Poundland so we may just have to be grateful for what we get.

McNulty and Baldock both signed when gourlay was here no? What about bod? Was he a gourlay signing? These guys could all be on shit loads.... ship them out and replace with cheaper equally good /slightly shitter player. From a business point of view it makes sense, maybe not so much from a footballing point of view. But we knew this was going to be what happens this summer. We lose our better players and replace them with players slightly worse.

Unlikely Bod could command a top waye off the back of very few goals for Wolves.

No way McNulty is on a top wage given where he came from.

I think he’s considerably more physical than either of those players so maybe he wouldn’t be too bad as a loan striker

A hard working striker who has that built in ability to get himself in the right place at the right time in the box and scores goals. A proven goal scorer at our level and if he is in our budget, yes please!

He's 31 with some decent experience and still three or four years left. Would help Loader develop too.

You just don’t know, Reading have acquired ageing strikers before and have got more than value for money eg Kermorgant, Quinn, Morley and like those Hooper knows where the goal is so given there’s no transfer fee and given the position of the club this summer this is a no brainier really. And at least we know he’s not likely to be on silly money if he does sign.

Strikers then will be Loader, Novakovich, Hooper and Smith looks like he’s still in the mix.

i would be happy with this signing on a 1 to 2 year contract.

No one wanted Billy Sharp until Wilder stepped in and he has been great for Sheff U.

As mentioned above, we have had good value from aging strikers in the past and for me Hooper is better than Bod and Baldock. I'll be on my own on this one but I still think McNulty (with confidence) is worth another chance.

Those oldies haven't all been a success, including Billy Sharp whose natural home is Sheff Utd.
As a further cautionary note remember Les Ferdinand.

Are we realistically going to sell Baldock, McNulty and Bodvarsson?

And if we do, why Hooper when there's Oliveira available?

Oliveira > Piggott > Hooper for me.

Fee agreed with Millwall for Böðvarsson

Yep, but still only one of three and could fall through yet.

Baldock is probably the one most hard to shift.

Les Ferdinand was 38/39 when he signed, Hooper turns 32 in January. I wouldn’t quite put them in the same bracket.

Only 6 appearances last season and one goal.
Only just over 20 games per season for the previous 3 seasons.
Les Ferdinand may have been 39 but he had been once very good whereas IMHO Hopper has never been very good and as an all-round striker (as opposed to scoring goals and not doing much else)he is way behind Oliveira in what he has to offer.

This ^

I watched a game at Celtic Park a few years back whilst in Glasgow on business. Hooper scored 4 goals - you don’t just lose that kind of goal scoring instinct. At 31 he would bring some good experience for Loader and Nova to learn from.

I would like Nélson to sign, but he’s now linked to sign with Aek :?
