Speculation Nigel Adkins new DOF?

by WoodleyRoyal » 20 Aug 2019 15:15

Pure speculation on my part but I find it hard to believe that Nige is just here to watch a few games of football. He was present against Cardiff and on the opening day against Sheff Wed. Nick Hammond was also present on Sunday with Adkins, could we be lining him up for a role at the club - our next DOF? personally, I think he would make a very good DOF. Discuss

After last year's atrocious season I just assumed the board had got him to put a positive spin on things.

Would Mark Bowen be annoyed to have to share an office ? I thought he was pretty much doing the DofF role.
Can't see Jose being too happy to have someone like Adkins around.

I guess it is conceivable that he still lives in the area and just wanted to take a few matches in.

Probably has a couple of contacts at the club still.

Hmm well he was here as a technical consultant with a focus solely on the tactical side of things. very different role to DOF.

" In joining the Royals’ ranks as Technical Consultant, Bowen’s focus will be to help manager José Gomes and his coaching staff in their tactical preparation for the end of season run-in through the analysis and assessment of our opposition as we ready ourselves for the four crucial home games and four vital away days that remain."

Whether his role has since changed i do not know.

Seeing as there is no definition of what a DofF does it's hard to know how different the role he did was from how we might define a DofF !
I had heard that Bowen was still at the club and what he was doing seemed pretty close to how a DofF might be used, although completely different to how our previous successful DofF operated !
I still can't see how Gomes would accept someone into the club who was basically looking to take his job.....

Adkins was lied to and mislead here from the start. Think he gets a lot of abuse that's unwarranted. Lovely bloke too.

Yeah +1 as well, seems to get a lot of hate but I can never work out why.

Right manager at the wrong time.

I liked him, though the positive talk got tiresome

Nice chap agreed - met him on a train once and he was very friendly, honest and chatty. Crosby was with him and a lot more guarded

Agreed apart from McDoughnut 2.0.

Now he is a manager that got massively found out with no plan B.

To be fair to him he didn't have the players to have a plan B. He would have wanted to have the summer to have the chance to shift the deadwood and bring new faces in and bring the identity back to the club. In hindsight the club did the right thing though because Stam came in and we had the dream season nearly.

I still don’t know what to think about McD 2.0

Was disappointed he got the sack at the time despite the second half of that season being utterly miserable

Then obvs the play off season was a big bonus with Stam who did a fine job initially

But Stam season 2 and the terrible signings that followed genuinely did nearly bring the club to its knees (along with the most unentertaining dreadful football I’ve ever watched) whereas I’d expect McD would have given us a good foundation to compete in the champ.
