Swift to... Southampton

by paultheroyal » 06 Jan 2020 10:16

Silly season and all that, heard mutterings over weekend and seems to be gathering a small amount of momentum.

Saints have allegedly £35m to spend in January and keen to bring in 3 outstanding performers from Championship rather than the foreign route. Swift is very much on their radar.

I'm guessing the other two players will be on free transfers then...

thought it was 2.5 years left? Signed after Stam season 1

Still no surprise - in fact been surprised there hasn't been more noise about Swift. Southampton would be a fair fit I think

I have every confidence in our owners not to sell our prize assets, they are ambitious.

We don't need to sell, Swift is settled and a guaranteed starter in an improving team. Even if he wanted to move, and there's absolutely no suggestion he does, if l he continues his current form there'll be better teams than Southampton calling in the summer.

Get rid now. Cash in. It's just like the Nick Blackman situation - he's going through his purple patch which we must capitalise on now.

Would have thought Southampton would have learnt their lesson buying high rated Championship players. Che Adams has been woeful there so far

Totally forgot about him! No goals in 15 Prem games is pretty poor. Especially after bagging 22 last season with Birmingham. Possibly heading on loan to Leeds.

Yeah, Leeds looking for a striker. Nketiah back to Arsenal (wonder if he'll feature tonight for Arsenal against them)

Not sure that'd be the best move for Adams. Bamford is on a good streak of form and Bielsa often seems reluctant to go two up top (hence Nketiah's lack of game time)

Adams possibly one of those too good for the Champ but not Prem level. File under Dwight Gayle

I would take Che Adams plus £8m for Swift. Adams can do it in the Championship.

Absolutely. Goals in the Championship are the hardest and most important thing to come, it's why clubs always used to sign Kevin Phillips for a promotion campaign.

Is he the most promoted player ever? Five 1st div/championship promotions with five different clubs.

But sure, Ross McCormack is the highest scoring championship player and he has never been promoted. Goals may be important but never should be valued above the team. Swift makes this team work.
