Young defender, released by ManU, presume would be an academy signing if it happened

Short 16 year old centreback.

Needs a growth spurt or a position change by the sounds.

Decent age to go into the Academy though.

Can't stand this new age of centre half that are lean streaks of piss. What happened to proper defenders?!

1) they all have turning circles of oil tankers
2) they are all as slow as oil tankers
3) you can't get away with just kicking the nippy forwards anymore

Rather surprisingly, I read that at first as Johanna Konta

And I don't even like tennis

Personally I think she would be a great signing for us as she is so good at knocking the ball into the net.

How many success stories involve a back story of being rejected by various academies for being "too small"? Ebere Eze I believe is one. Charlie Austin is one we let go too.

On the flip side, I imagine in most cases the academy doing the releasing are proven right, we just don't hear about it.

Byron Glasgow.

Didn't his mum pot together a whole youth team of players told they too small, many who went pro, Jodie Morris was in it maybe?

My mates dad (rip) was turned down by Crystal Palace for being too small back in the 70’s so it’s not a new thing.

These days “too small” is usually the “I like you as a friend” of “reasons why we released you”. I know Reading are still using it despite Karacan, Liam Kelly, Tanner, East, etc.

Bit different in a position which generally speaking commands some degree of height. No idea how tall this kid but you don’t get many CB’s less than 6ft/6ft1. To be shorter than that and still be effective you have to be really really oxf*rd good, and not many are.

Point taken. I think Akin Odimayo is a smidge under six foot. Exception that proves the rule etc. but it does show we’re not averse to short centre backs. If Puyol and Cannavaro (and Kyle Walker!) could make it work at a much higher level then I think someone on the level of prime Ingimarsson, for example, could probably still make it work.
