I for one enjoyed the fun that came with a random announcement of a tenuous link to a player I never heard of.

I was quite surprised when I clicked onto the forum to see there was a 4pager that had sprung up this afternoon. Didn't think I had been that busy at work!

Never seen him play, but sounds like a decent prospect. Too bad it’s supposedly unlikely to happen now..

5 foot 7 22 year old winger (23 in March) who can play either side as well as through the middle. Looks reasonably quick.

Wiki give his full name as Diego Martín Rossi Marachlian, born in Montevideo an represented Uruguay at all international youth levels.

Would he have enough points to get a work permit though?

Pepe the Horseman My LAFC supporting mate says he's shit. Only in the team because he's Giuseppe Rossi's son.

I heard the same tbf.

And a lot of people heard that Veljko Paunovic was shit too!

Absolutely

We could fill the Mad Stad with Reading fans past and present who have slagged off managers and players they’ve never seen or heard of. :P

WoodleyRoyal if hes the best player in th MLS why the fook would he want to come here, something doesn't add up. Surly we will get gazumped by a PL team

“Best player in the MLS” is like “best three-wheeled car”.

What is the best 3 wheeled car ooi?

A Reliant Robin is the obvious answer but this is another area where our cousins in Japan and on the continent have outdone us. The Toyota i-road is probably the best of the lot.

You know who produces bad three-wheelers? America. And it’s the same with footballers. I would rather be dead in a ditch than have an American or a former MLS player play for Reading.

The MLS is a Band 4 competition. If he has played 90%+ of his club’s league minutes this season then that awards him 6 points. He receives a further 6 points for appearing in the squad. This would only award him 12 of the 15 necessary points. LAFC played in the CONCACAF Champions League last season, which is a Band 3 continental competition. Rossi receives two points because they reached the final, and a further 2 points if he played over 90% of their minutes.

This means he qualifies for a work permit if:

- He played at least 80% of MLS minutes last season AND at least 90% of the CONCACAF Champions League minutes, OR

- He played at least 90% of MLS minutes AND at least 80% of the CONCACAF minutes.

This would be relatively easy to get around if we were able to send him on loan to a Band 2 competition, and if he has EU citizenship then there are plenty of those available. Equally, a Uruguay cap would give him 8 additional points (because they are a top 10 nation) and essentially automatically qualify him for the next year. Playing in 30% of Uruguay’s matches would literally automatically qualify him even if he didn’t have a club.

So in short - he qualifies depending on the minutes he has played. Presumably the club will have looked at this and determined he is likely to qualify.

Bit of a sweeping statement.
