Millsy Interesting that our beloved Shane Long had similar goal scoring stats to Puscas for us and that’s including his one good season that occurred in his sixth season for us.

Long has always been a workhorse though, so even when he's not among the goals you know he's putting a shift in and can potentially create space for others, I don't know if you can say the same for Puscas.

Also totally different situations. Long joined when he was incredibly raw and was not expected to lead the line as we had Lita, Kitson, Doyle, etc..

Long cost us a fraction of the price and his wages are (and still probably were 10 years ago) significantly less than Puscas'.

There is clearly a player there with Puscas, but we don't play a system that suits his strengths (i.e. 2 up top) and the finances dictate in this situation.

He also had about 4 seasons of cameos and not being expected to be a large part of the first team. Not exactly a great comparison to compare to one of our most expensive signings

It’s a great thing to point out though.....
It’s just a fact. Millsy hasn’t criticised either player, just shown how ‘facts’ can mislead, or be adapted to suit your preconceptions....

Long makes space for others - Puscas made space for himself. Neither is the wrong way to lead the line.

Long can play up-top on his own and has learnt from his years in the PL how to put himself about properly as we saw on Saturday.

Puscas can't. Don't really think it is fair to compare the two. Unfortunately it was never going to work out with Puscas playing one up top. A very expensive mistake but don't hold anything against him tbh.

So twitter reports that we have put a price on his head. Sale of 2.5m euros. Its not crazy money in real terms, but for the level of the teams after him its a marquee signing. Just to rub salt in the wounds, reported that he doesn't want to lose out on his £900,000 a year salary either.

So that will be him loaned out in the next 2 seasons then until his contract is up as he wont take a pay cut.

I can only think of clubs like Cagliari in Serie B would be able to match both price and wage demands. Hopefully, if he does go out on loan it means someone can subsidise a large chunk of his wages meaning we can at least bring someone else in.

Hopefully we can get this sorted for the sake of his career and our ability to finish building a competitive team for the season. He's a good player, he's shown it here at times but he's a bit of a square peg in a round hole, we don't really play the sort of football that best suits him and don't seem willing to build a team around him, understandable really when our best team involves Joao as a lone striker, when he's not injured of course.

It'll get sorted but someone is going to have to compromise, probably us.

As the EFL allegedly changed their stance on allowing us to register Sarr before balancing the books, we need Puscas out in the next 3 weeks. If he doesn't want a drop in wages then likely it'll end up a loan somewhere with us paying 50% or so of his salary, which will allow us to bring in Sarr. Any other deals will be tough though unless there is a loan with no wage contribution involved.

Someone would be getting a ridiculously good deal getting him for no loan fee and paying only 8-9k a week

Do wonder if it’s worth us just taking a bit of a hit this year knowing he will still have value next if we loan him. But realise the less wages another team pay; the less players we can bring in this year

The only way around this is a loan deal with no wage contribution from our side, I'm hoping that is the case with the LB from the PL that we appear to be chasing.

It’s more complex than that. We can’tbtransfer him any where unless he agrees to go there. We could have 20 deals on the table, some of which could be for high value fees but if the player will only go to a club wanting a loan and paying little of his wages we are stuck.

I know, but the blocker is apparently he doesn't want to take a pay cut to go anywhere - so we will likely have to contribute towards that, which will go against the budget but paying 300k this year to aid a transfer as opposed to the reported 900k for him to stay would make sense.

Best case scenario would be Pay 50% of his wages but receive a small loan fee. Plays in Serie B and does very well as he did back end of last season. Have an option to recall in Jan so we can rekindle some sale leads and attempt to sell again.
Hopefully if he performs well that would encourage teams to pay out our 2.5m valuation.

I'm reading reports that it is his wage demands (doesn't want to take a drop on what he's paid by us) rather than our valuation that has been the real sticking point.

Of course he wouldn’t want to take a drop in wages - guessing it’s more a q of what us paying the minimum we can of his wages

Shame Nicky Hammond’s not still here, he’d have persuaded Puscas to move by now and probably also have persuaded another club to take Liam Moore, injury and all.

Exactly that, thanks. Just interesting and yes all points made in response are valid.
Thanks all for the good responses.

No disrespect to Puscas but he's achieved nothing in his career so he can't complain about being worse off on wages
