Sutekh
Pepe the Horseman Shaun Allaway. Joined Leeds and was never heard of again.

Joined Leeds in March 2000  - yes it is that long ago - for a rumoured 500k plus addons which obvs. never materialised. Never made a senior appearance for Leeds and neither for Grimsby or Walsall where he was loaned. Leeds released him in the summer of 2004 and he then signed non contract terms for Slough Town - and I think played for them when they did Walsall in the FA Cup in 04/05.

His brother was Ricky I think, he left Reading in 2003 and the last I can recall he was playing for Basingstoke Town a few seasons ago.

Shaun and Ricky loved the bars and clubs too much. They always felt like celebs at Utopia. Never grew up and never focused on their careers.

I think I'd prefer Nyland to stay on as well really but yes, it might not be so straight-forward. I don't mind the look of Braga though from the admittedly very little I've seen but a free transfer on small wages it could be relatively low risk in that regard.

Because some people aren’t fickle enough to write someone off after a few poor months in a shambolic side

I do actually think he's a good goalkeeper all things considered, but the errors he has made probably have stood out in a season where there has been a sea of them. During a good bit of early season form, he was excellent. During some sticky form in December/January time, he was underwhelming and a couple of errors cost us some points, notably against Hull and Derby. He's certainly not to blame for our season and was an improvement on Rafael who was getting worse as time went on. It's just a nice, reassuring feeling to have an experienced goalkeeper in Nyland between the sticks for the remainder of this season.

Certainly having two international standard goalkeepers in our ranks is not something to be scoffed at either, most clubs in our division could only wish for such strength in depth in that position.

That's got a whiff of Kia's Laundry Shop of Horrors about it.

I'd rather offer a contract to Nyland. He's got some experience in this country, he knows the club, and we kind of know what we're getting so he's much less of an unknown quantity.

Southwood (and Joao) make the worst Championship team of the month.

Interesting given Joao won PotM for February iirc.

Don't think they're the worst two in our team the last month, let alone the division.

At best any of the options we have may, if lucky, one day, in a good team be... "Ok" ie not a bit dodgy like they are now.

Screw that, I hope we can get someone half decent.

Goalkeepers are usually pretty easy to recruit, there will be plenty number 3's out there looking for first-team action and probably a few number two's too. just need to use the loan market well, if we can't sign anyone for a fee, then we will have to continue to utilise the out of contact market.

Alex McCarthy is ooc in the summer as is Fraser Forster from Southampton
Loris Karius and Adrian are from Liverpool
Begovich from Everton
Fabianski from west ham
Alex Smithies from Cardiff
David Button West Brom

Not saying we would get all the above but this is just an example of the number of keepers with significant English football experience that are available on a free in the summer, and the list above is by no means exhaustive.

For me personally, this Nyland hasn't shown enough to be our number one. And there are much better options out there. We shouldn't panick and give him a contract. We can do better.

I think Nyland has done ok so far. Yes, poor goal to give away against Stoke in the week but has also done plenty of good as well. He still has 6 games to earn himself a new contract and if he does what he has been doing and his wages are reasonable, then I would be in favour of keeping him on.

Good Shout, might be more interested in Korey Smith, he's 31 so still has a few years left until his legs go.

I'd say yes to being a squad goalkeeper, definitely not as a number 1 though. Could be useful to have some experience to guide Southwood through, but I'd just feel more comfortable with a better GK really.

Hamer is a bit old but probably an improvement on what we have.

Nyland is a great shot stopper but terrible for crosses and commanding his area. That part of his game will never improve now. He came for a simple punch on Saturday which nearly ended up in his net. We do seem to of made a right mess of our keeper recruitment considering the production line coming from the academy.

Thats a good point, I can see that the academy lads wont be physically challenged during games. They are clearly technically gifted keepers but not getting the training required to be a physical presence. So they probably wont develop the skill required to clear out who ever is in the way to claim a cross.

Or could it be due to the excessive injury list this season, that even during training they aren't allowed to clatter into players?

Jimmy Quinn was not bad in goal and I believe he's available.
