There are no restrictions on the quality of player we can sign. We could still sign Laurent, Rino, Meite, Yiadom, Morrison....

Given Laurent has apparently gone to Stoke and Meite and Yiadom are already our players quite a few of them may be rather tricky to sign..

Not really, we just signed Yiadom and Holmes.....

Yeah, that was exactly my point. They already signed. Can't do it again.

Could be wrong but isn't the point that none of this players cost a penny so we could still sign some very decent players.

Of course pre-season starts tomorrow and we have 0 live rumours re incomings or contracts.

I was hoping Ian was making a humorous comment.
Glad the real point wasn’t lost on everyone ….

I'm sure there's a thread somewhere I'm missing as it's old news now but I'm glad we got another GK option in Bouzanis. If Lumley cocks up at least he can step in. Keeps him on his toes.

JLow:

Some transfer (ish) news regarding Luke Southwood. Understand he's set to snub a move away from #readingfc this summer

His perogative of course but I would imagine it's been made clear that if he stays he starts as 3rd choice, so he is essentially taking up a slot in our allowed squad that we could use on an outfield player (if we ever sign a player again).

Annoying as with GK, you have to sign replacements first and looks like there are a number of takers for Southwood but you can't make a player move.

Oh look. Bouzanis wasn’t required. Who'd have thunk it.

I still think we did need a back up goalkeeper, as it seems as if it's been made clear that Southwood is surplus to requirements, it's just his decision to not move. Fair play to compete for places, hopefully he can show signs of improvement.

And we still have two back up keepers excluding Bouzanis

That's down to the players for wanting to stay and/or not wanting to move on. Not much that the club can do about that, as mentioned above, we can't force players to move, but we definitely needed to sort that area of the team out.

At least Bouzanis is on a super short contract so we aren't stuck with him for too long....

Bouzanis should be number 1. Send Lumley back to Boro.

Well, at the moment, he's the only senior keeper under contract for 23/24.

Yeah, so not very smart to have wasted resources on a new guy we didn’t need because we had existing players who want to stay.

You could just acknowledge I called it right.

Players who weren't judged to be good enough by the experienced management and recruitment team you mean?

I will trust their judgement (and my own opinion) over yours.

You're trying to be "right" about a nonsensical argument though.

Correct, we didn't need any goalkeepers because we had numbers there, Southwood, CBC, Andresson, Rowley, Mawer etc. Seen as that's what you want to hear.

If Southwood does decide to stay, there is of course the potential to loan out Bouzanis (hopefully at a higher level than L2), keep Lumley as first choice with Southwood as second choice for the season

Wouldn’t be ideal loaning out a new signing but Southwood is more than adequate as a backup GK and makes very little sense to keep three first team goalies on board
