captain for next season

by Brogue » 20 Jun 2022 10:47

Moore has returned, he was club captain. Wonder if Ince will reinstate if Moore is to stay, Morrison has gone. who is the next inline? Yiadom? or will we sign a captain?

who do you want to see as captain out of the current crop?

Probably Yids. There are very few options.

Thinks Yids is nailed on, especially with Ince praising his attitude and whatnot.

I am not a fan of full backs being captains but I don't think we have a choice but to give it to Yiadom. I would say McIntyre has a shot too, probably end up being vice captain.

Yiadom for sure. He was Barnsley captain so has done the job before. Nailed on place in the team, been here a while, seems well liked by the other players.
Not really any other obvious candidates although Tom Holmes has captained the side in the past....

Options

Liam Moore
+ Incumbent
+ Usually plays through injuries
+ Popular with the squad
- Actively trying to sell
- Not a guaranteed starter

Scott Dann
+ Senior player
- Old and injury prone

Andy Yiadom
+ Guaranteed starter
+ The only player at the club with a good injury record
+ Popular
- Even by footballer standards, allegedly not very bright

Lucas Joao
+ Best player
+ Part of the “leadership group”
- Injury prone
- Striker
- Not the most vocal on the pitch

Andy Rinomhota
+ Likely starter
+ Long serving
- Not currently employed by the club

Yakou Meite
+ (should be) a guaranteed starter
+ probably the most popular player both with fans and other players
+ long serving
- injury prone

Ovie Ejaria
+ Likely starter
+ Relatively good injury record
- Reserved personality which is at odds with the outgoing members of the squad

Tom McIntyre
+ Likely starter (if the season started tomorrow he’d be first choice in three positions)
+ Reading fan, very passionate
+ Popular with fans
- Young - might not have full respect of senior players?
- Injury prone

Tom Holmes
+ less injury prone than McIntyre
+ captained last season ahead of McIntyre
- otherwise worse than McIntyre in every meaningful way

Would quite like it to be Ejaria tbh just for Ian's reaction to it.

Not sure if it will be Moore, time will tell on his situation at the club.

Yiadom, McIntyre, Holmes, Rino would all be good enough options to consider though, probably in that order with Rino's future in the balance.

If it does happen to be Moore again next season, I'm not too concerned by that either.

Maybe a new incoming player? It would be interesting if T Ince rejoins and is made captain. I suspect it will be Yids or Moore.

I would say Joe Lumley.

He is a very popular figure at the club, he also posts on hobnob.

Re-appointing Moore would be a huge oxf*rd you to Dai. So zero chance. Although it would be funny.

Especially seeing as we really must get shot of Moore.

Yiadom probably. Maybe McIntyre or Dann.

+ More A Levels than the rest of the squad combined (to the best of my knowledge)
+ Would unite the squad (in opposition and bafflement)
+ Low wages, no FFP concerns
+ Allegedly once played left back
+ Could be effective scapegoat
- Radio could break down at any minute
- The club does not own a water company
- Would need to be substituted due to exhaustion midway through the warm-up.

I think that scoring fails at point 1 !
Maybe ‘educated to degree level’ might hold up

Yiadom was the only player to come out and talk to the fans demonstrating after the Peterborough game. That showed some guts, and a degree of responsibility in representing the other players. That's the kind of thing you'd want in a captain.

That's very kind.

I've got 5 A Levels and 'equivalent'
