morganb Another one from Twitter:

Reading are looking at a number of youngsters at Premier League clubs desperate for first-team minutes.

https://mobile.twitter.com/RFCLatest/st ... 3132009476

Not sure why as Ince has favoured experience over youth this season, plus we can only have 5 loan players in a match day squad (assuming loan not signings) and a limit of 25 players (though youngsters may not count towards the limit depending on appearances etc)

As it say "first-team minutes" guess they won't be signing for the Academy.

Maybe that is just a bit of old news and while we were looking, we’ve now taken one and therefore are no longer actually looking….

We're interested in Lyle Taylor and Cafu from Forest according to SSN

I like the sound of a lot of this but it will require an outgoing or two really. It feels like we have been linked with Cafu in the last couple of windows. Lyle Taylor I think would be alright for us.

Not sure what we will get in terms of youngsters from the PL, that seems like the most likely route for players to come in, but again, not sure how it would work in respect to our current restrictions. Would be in favour of it though.

Interesting. Both out of contract in the summer and going to be nowhere near the Forest team ever again. Would need to move bodies but wonder if Forest might be tempted to let them go for free.

Speaking of teams letting players go for free - I wonder if Middlesbrough would let Lumley go for free in this window so we can sign him now (assuming we're likely to do this in the summer) and therefore free up a match day loan spot? (Budget allowing of course)

Just seen on The Athletic's coverage page that Chelsea might be willing to let Omari Hutchinson go today, with the player in discussions with Carlo Cudicini who is part of Chelsea's youth development set up. I wonder if he might be a player that we are chasing on loan.

Still seems a bit weird to be linked with players when we have the full /5 man squad. Not sure what is in the pipeline regarding freeing up the spaces

Presumably we’d have to be rid of either Joao or ejaria to be able to contribute to wages of Cafu or Taylor. Possibly also true with Lumley signing on a free (boro may be paying some of his wage)

Yeah it is strange that we seem to be linked with a lot of players in the last few days with seemingly no movement outgoings wise anyway. I'm sure there will be negotiations ongoing in the club and hopefully it means that 2/3 of our youngsters that are taking up our 25-man squad will be going out on loan somewhere. Lumley signing permanently would also be a positive sign.

Loaning youngsters would free up space but not wage particularly

Forest a good place to look though. The prem money clearly burning a massive hole in their pocket so a good chance of an arrangement that suits us

I guess it is possible that the EFL can see that we are going to come in well under the budget so are allowing us an additional player or two on the same terms i.e loan/FAs only - but admit that is unlikely.

Club will be very active trying to get deals in place so that if they are able to free space up then all that is needed is for the paperwork to be signed.

Yeah doubt we are well under budget either considering it took a while to sort out AC and Mbengue

Dirk Gently
Stranded Already mentioned it but if we have more loans than we can use then it absolutely breeds competition in the squad. No-one wants to be the loanee that doesn't play, so hopefully, you start to see a new level of performance both in training and on the pitch as if you are in, you know you may easily be sat in the stand the following week.

This. All the loanees will have something to prove - not just to us but to their home club, too, who will be closely watching them. So that effort and enthusiasm and competition for places can only be a good thing - sometimes I get the feeling that some of our regular players are just a little too comfortable and established, so anything to shake them up a bit is a definite positive.

Rahman certainly is.

Kenneth Zahore has had his contract terminated at West Brom. If we wanted an easy option for a CF (that we aren't just restricted to do before 11pm tonight), then he could be one to help bolster the squad.

His record at this level leaves a lot to be desired, but he might be someone who we can get some use out of. Experienced player at this level as well. Even if it's just until the end of the season, that might work out ok. Low cost so if it doesn't work out, not much damage done.

Josh Onimah at Fulham similar - though suspect he might be a bit more in demand. Would be a useful signing for someone

There’s no sign of anyone leaving so I can’t see anymore incomings. Unless we’re intending to mutually terminate a couple of players contracts?

We could be - some of our players are earning less than Wrexham's according to Ince at weekend

We’re probably fairly comfortable given the unbudgeted cup income…..
Not rolling in cash, but that game will have made a significant difference given we were going to meet our commitments anyway.

I wouldn't take it as gospel or anything, but FM23 has the players that we signed permanently in the summer as earning £3k per week.

Don’t we just have a set wage budget for the season? Would the cup income affect this?

I know you’ve read up on this a bit more than me but it thought we had a set 16m limit regardless of gates or transfer fees received
