Reading would apparently like to make Jeff Hendrick's loan permanent in the summer, however it's probably going to be dependent on staying up.

Unless he's prepared to take a £48k/w paycut it's never going to happen regardless if how good or otherwise he is.

I think We need to be a bit more imaginative in our transfer dealings.

If there's one loan midfielder we shouldn't be looking to bring back next season it's Jeff Hendrick.

He's over 30.
He's not going to get better.
He's completely mediocre in all aspects.
He was only just shy of being ever present in a shambles of a midfield that averaged under 42% possession.

We probably shouldn't be looking to bring back any of them, but at least the others are all younger with room for growth and showed some flashes of genuine quality, however briefly.

I find it quite hard to dislike Hendrick as you can tell he is desperate to do well, leaves everything on the pitch and can see he is probably a good team man. Could have been a billy big bollox coming from the Prem but no hint of that

It’s just he’s a bit shit.

If he wants a job as a cheerleader, counselor or coach I'm fine with that.

I don't mind your Charlie Adams who you see on the way down because their legs are shot, but they've still got the brain and the touch. I do mind the error prone or just bang average ones who you know should be able to do better from their history. Like Drinkwater or Hendrick. Although Hendrick of course is nowhere near as bad as Drinkwater in the disappointing failure stakes

Actually like the look of Macauley Langstaff, Johnny Mullen and Elliott Lee, be great if Reading could bring players of that type to the club to mix in with the likes of Camara, Azeez and Ehibhatiomhan, the fans need something to be excited about especially in attacking players who can cause serious damage to opponents given the utter kak that the club have been used to on the field in the forward department for the last 3/4 years.

If we want an old head in the middle of the park, is Jake Livermore an option? He's leaving West Brom this summer, but is 33 now.

About as relevant as whether I'd take Santa Claus or Haaland.

Hardly a question that will ever trouble Reading, even if they did by some god knows what event sign Messi there'd be some on here saying what a waste of money and that he'd never cut it on a Wednesday night at Wycombe in front of the proverbial one man and his pie.

Hendrick in L1 would be a much more valuable player than in the Championship, and we can hardly be fussy. If he wants to stay and if we can afford him, it's a no brainer. Going into pre-season with 16 players and some will want to leave means we really can't be that fussy.

The club absolutely has to be fussy - if Hendrick fits the criteria for a specific role in the squad and is a good fit as a person, then great sign him. If not, move on.

This is the chance to sign to a plan this year not just sign who we can get - the latter is part of the issue of why we are where we are today.

He'd bobble around doing not a lot and spanking ludicrous 20+yard shots into orbit exactly the same as in the Championship.

Now is 100% the time to be fussy.

The biggest issue with Hendrick is he's still under contract at Newcastle next season - so he'll either have to be bought from Newcastle (I'd imagine there would be other players we would be looking at if we have to pay a fee for him - especially as he's 31 now) or would have to have his loan renewed (are there better players we could get in on loan?).
