Rumour - Meite to Liege

by Stranded » 28 Mar 2023 09:50

Reported this morning that Standard Liege are interested in signing Meite on a free transfer come the end of his deal this summer.

Would love to keep him but with his injury record of late and the fact we will be unlikely to renew on current terms, may well be best for all parties to move on this summer - regardless of the division we are in.

A player to make an effort to keep, but not one to pull out any stops for or risk finances.

He's a goalscorer, he lifts the fans and team, but he's not always the easiest to fit into a workable shape and he's a bit of a blunt instrument... bit head down and poor touch, clumsy.

Love him to bits

Would be a massive shame, but can understand the move from all sides if it happens.

Would love to keep him, as I expect most would, but it would have to be on the right deal.

Really likeable guy but not good enough at this level and too many injury issues. Good he's moving on, and SL is a decent club for him too.

One of the few players who can actually do a job on the wing and can score, lift the team etc. The sort of player we really need to be trying to keep, within reason of course.

We're really losing the heart and soul of this club with so many key players going, wtf is happening to us.

Sometimes I think **** it let's just volunteer to go down so we can start again from the ground up.

Prob my favourite player of recent times but all good things come to an end, and his good things seemed to end with that nasty knee injury last year

Called an embargo and a ‘business plan’

Can’t afford fringe players on his sort of salary - that’s what got us into the mess in the first place

Don’t think we can on one hand say we’re badly run financially and on the other offer a decent contract to someone who has spent most of the past 2 years injured and scored a total of 3 goals in that period (and had about the same number of good performances)

He has been a good servant to the club, unstoppable on his day, injury record has killed him and is one of our higher earners and likely would be even if we offered a new deal.

If his heart is set on a move, I wouldn't waste any time trying to convince and just let him go. Shame to see him go, but best for all parties I think.

Yeah it was a rhetorical question, I do get it thanks. Such as sad situation.

Re: Meite I was hoping he wouldn't be on a massive wage, given we were surprised to have given him a 4 year contract when he was relatively young and not that great at the time of signing. And now with injuries etc as you say again I can't see him commanding much. So embargo or not a real shame to lose him if he can't be signed "within reason" as I say.

If you were to offer him a contract to stay, how long and on what terms... assuming we stay up?

2 years, 10k?

Considering we're going to be getting rid of the Moore and Joao wages, I think I'd be comfortable offering up to £15k for 2 years with the option of a 3rd.

He's allegedly on £11k/wk. If he is prepared to resign on similar, it would be a no brainer IMO.

Nah I'm done with carrying injury prone players, time to move on from Meite imo.

Would be a loss and sad that he might be off but right now I think most of the senior squad can do one. Except maybe Ince, Azeez, Holmes, Lumley and Carroll

Lumley can go for me as well, he's not a good keeper by any metric.
