SPECULATION - Is Matthew Taylor available?

by Candu » 30 Oct 2007 22:03

This is not a rumour, just a question. I don't follow Portsmouth but I hear that Matts has only started three games this season. If Reading are going to lose Shorey in January doesn't he make the perfect replacement? Best penalty taker around in my opinion.

I still don;t think Shorey is going anywhere in January, so it's a hypothetical question !

But Redknapp is a wheeler dealer and I suspect that if a deal were offered he would think about it whilst awaiting the envelope in the post....

He might well be available but he's best suited to playing left midfield and has done at Pompey for the last couple of years after getting found out defensively too often.

He might do for as a left back, if Shorey goes, but I'd guess he'll be on more than we'd be willing to pay.

He'd be an improvement on Hunt on the left anyway.

I'm sure he wouldn't mind hanging out with two big black men at the back... the poof

Boss Steve Coppell is plotting a Reading club-record £5m bid for Portsmouth midfielder Matt Taylor. (Sunday Mirror)

Started again yesterday and has played in 9 games now this season, looks like he is part of their plans, highly unlikey to come here.

2-0, are you looking at Steven Taylor on Newcastle's team sheet? Matt Taylor hasn't played in the Premiership for 6 weeks.

well this could be finally a pleasant way to solve the Shorey problem. Either he goes or gets kicked to the bench by Tayls

Back page of Portsmouth News, Harry tells Reading and Fulham to keep their hands off him.

What can I say Lista? I was one small step ahead of the football media on this one :). I was genuinely surprised Taylor wasn't getting playing time. He is a proven EPL player in his prime, the kind of player the Royals definitely need in January. According to the EatSleepSport, West Ham and Middlesbrough are interested as well.

Reading are supposedly going to offer Shorey a record contract. I'm guessing his reaction will have a lot to do with whether or not they go full out for Taylor.

Only started 3 times in the PL this season, including their only 2 defeats.

Err yes. Just stating that he's hardly been integral to their good start by only starting 3 of 12 games including the two they would expect to have lost.

I imagine that if he does become available a substantial fee will be necessary and other Premiership clubs will be interested.

Ergo, he ain't moving to Reading.

Have just been speaking to a well-connected Pompey fan who said that Taylor and 'arry had a bust up weeks ago and that Taylor would be available in the transfer window.
I also heard from elsewhere (Dodd me if necessary)that we are looking at Colchester's left-back as a replacement for Shorey.
I would like to see Taylor as a left-sided midfielder rather than as a full-back and feel that his all-round game is better than Hunt's and probably better than Bobby's.
