SPECULATION - Where's Bobby going?

by Kwacka » 02 Dec 2008 13:34

Before last night's game Bobby Convey was asked his opinion on not being able to get into the current team.
His response was that it was different for him than the other lads but he would like one more game before he leaves.
Has anybody heard about him leaving in January and if so where's he off to?

Championship or MLS I guess.
If I was him, I'd go.

Shame to see him leave, he's a nice lad, no trouble, just a bit light weight.

You have to assume we have a replacement on the way then, or that we have been assured by S.Hunt that he will see the season out at least.

Steve Hunt is our nailed on left winger at the moment.

If he is sold, suspended, injured or hits bad form Convey is the back up.

If Convey goes we'll need a left winger from somewhere.

That said, if it does happen bet SC pushes Kebe onto the left and plays Henry as our right winger.

MLS have an expansion team in Seattle next season and one in Philadelphia the season after so will be looking for a few more 'name' players to raise the profile of the starting franchises.

I can see that being quite tempting although he is still really quite young.

Convey has played in the MLS before. I suspect he is trying to get himself back into the team,by warning Coppell he may leave.

*Word out of England is that Reading is looking to move USA midfielder Bobby Convey this winter and that he could land in Sweden, Norway or Denmark. Injuries and form have limited him to seven overall appearances (five league, two cup) out of a possible 23 with the first team this season. Convey, 25, has scored with the reserve squad.

Hope he doesn't go. I think that he is good cover for Hunt. It would be just our luck that if Convey left, Hunt would get injured. Agree with putting Kebe on the left and Henry on the right though if it was to come to that.

I remember seeing Bobby away at Villa away in the first season of the Premiership and he just seemed to have lost something. It's interesting how he didn't get a proper pre season that year (World Cup) and struggled just as he did in his first season here when he didn't have a full pre season (after the MLS season). I was hoping that he might have bounced back after a decent pre season and a real run of games but it doesn't seem to have happened.

I wouldn't want to get rid of him in January as he's a capable backup if we get injuries or lose Shunt but otherwise I'd wish him well moving on in the summer

If we are offered a reasonable sum in January then he is likely to go but I really cannot see anyone offering say 500K for him, so it is more likely that we will keep him as cover until the end of the season and then release him unless he returns to form.

It is all a bit sad as he was outstanding for one season but has been decidedly average in the other four seasons that he has been with us.

MLS would be pleased to bring him in. He'd do well over there.
Wouldn't be the worst move for him.
Still could see him joining another championship team though.

Is a shame what has happenned to bobby. He was so good in our championship winning season and then has done nothing since really. Though this has been through no fault of his own as he has suffered a string of injuries and with the rise of hunt he has had no real chance to gain any sort of form. 'wish him well in whatever he does next.
