Cannot believe that one - we have at least two better strikers than Tyson already in Hunt and long. For all we know Mooney may also be better than him and Tyson is injury prone.

He's got a bad enough injury record.

Flush Reading to launch Forest striker swoop?

By Forest Wednesday, 1st July 2009

Nathan Tyson is a target for the Royals according to reports in Berkshire on Wednesday night

With Kevin Doyle having been sold to Wolves for a whopping £6.5m, Reading have money to spend and strikers to sign.

Watford forward Tommy Smith is an £800,000 target but new boss Brendan Rodgers wants another frontman as well.

Tyson's link with Rodgers comes from his time as a Reading academy player and this week's signings of David McGoldrick and Dele Adebola could pave the way for his City Ground exit.

For the record the league appearances and goals last season were;

Tyson 28+7 goals 5
Hunt 27+10 goals 11
Long 13+26 goals 9

Taking sub appearances as a half appearance that means Tyson scores 1 in 6 games whereas Hunt and Long are both better than 1 in 3.

A FIT Tyson would be an asset in the Championship as one of a squad of strikers including Tommy Smith but FIT is the operative word. Simon Cox would be a better bet but more expensive of course. Has he (Cox) gone to WBA yet?

Hunt when STARTING played about 60 minutes. he's close to a goal every 180 minutes

A lot of Long's 26 sub appearances were very short. He's also close to 1 in 180 and did better than Doyle in minutes per goal

Nathan also played in an unsuccessful Forest side fighting off promotion and often as the lone striker whereas our two played in a side pressing for promotion and using two (alright about one and a half) wingers providing chances.
Obviously the injury problem exists but the same can be said about Noel Hunt.
I wouldn't mind him back.
IMHO a fit Nathan>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>a fit Hunt or Long.

Bit of a left sided Tommy Smith in some ways. Capable of playing upfront on his own and also playing wide on the left as one of the wingers in a 4-3-3/4-5-1.

Wouldn't be a bad signing if we can clear up his injury problems, but I doubt we'd be looking at him at the moment. We'd have to clear out some of our own squad players first as he wouldn't be the forward to come in and command a starting place ahead of the rest and replace someone like Doyle.

According to today's Chronicle they say the same thing that Brendan Rodgers is attempting to lure Nathan back to the club.

Could well be a million quid plus to get him as he signed a new contract there in February. Overall he's scored 29 goals in 133 apps for Forest (1 in every 4.5 games and has predominately been played as a left winger).

While a Wycombe he played as a striker and netted 39 in 68 league games which is a rather nice 1 in 1.7 games. Nathan obviously prefers playing as a striker!

I think the original story above was actually reporting the story from the Chronicle wasn't it?

Reading Chronicle :

Meanwhile, Rodgers may launch an audacious attempt to lure Nottingham Forest star Nathan Tyson back to Reading.

Sources in the east Midlands suggest the 27-year-old, who can play up front or on the wing, could be set for a shock return to Berkshire.

Royals are in the market for wide players as Stephen Hunt is certain to leave in the next few weeks and Glen Little has already gone.

Woodley-born Tyson, who went to Forest School, rose through Reading’s youth team ranks when Rodgers was in charge of the Academy. But, with first-team opportunities limited, he went to Wycombe Wanderers for £100,000 in 2004, a transfer that angered many Royals fans desperate to see local players given a chance.

And after smashing 39 goals in 68 league games for the Chairboys, he joined Forest for £700,000 in 2005 and has netted 29 times in 133 games.

Tyson has two years left on his current deal and Forest will not let him go for less than £1 million.
