Rodgers reactions in interview indicate realistic transfers

by BonBoh » 08 Jul 2009 20:47

A very good interview with BR on getreading website.

His whole body language tells us everything we need to know about speculation concerning our possible transfer targets.
Tommy Smith - will become a Reading player when NH agrees a fee with Watford.
Tamas Priskin - is not a target for Rodgers.
Robert Snodgrass - is not a target for Rodgers
Nathan Tyson - Rodgers would like him. No offer made by RFC but enquiries have resulted in Nottm Forest saying a big 'NO SALE'.
Three Chelsea players: Michael Mancienne, Ryan Bertrand and 'one other' (possibly Jack Cork) - will all come to Reading this summer.

He didn't say that.
He said he was working to get it done.
It doesn't make that definite.
Otherwise, agreed.

And Bertrand was the one other named when he said there was a third after Mancienne and Cork had been mentioned.

His cheeky comments and winks could have been "good guesses those are the ones I'm after", or equally could have meant "nice attempt to get me to spill the beans and name names, but not going to happen.",

If we get these players then brilliant. If not he's going to look a right prick and disappoint a whole lot of people.

He is only going to disappoint the idiots that want to read into this. Get it into that little peanut head of yours and accept money is tighter here than it has been for many years and we can't go splashing money around like the Cardiff's and QPR's. If you can do that, you wont be disappointed. I can't believe how carried away some of our supporters seem to be.

I heard today we have tabled a bid in the region of £1.4m for Smith. That I find incredible, but it's budget busting as well. One big signing and a few clever purchases or loans. That's our summer IMO.

Greed. Was a liability for England Under 21's. Simon Church did him twice

I doubt a recent England international would come on loan to the Championship.

Mancienne was called up to the England squad for a friendly at the end of the season. Not sure if he played though.

He didn't.

I agree that it's more likely he would go to a Premiership side if he gets the choice though.

Yes.

They need to further his development and see how he handles the level of football they're playing at to get a better idea of whether he can challenge for a place at Chelsea.

I can't see any reason why they wouldn't, unless it looked like he wouldn't get a game in the side he was being loaned to, in which case he probably isn't good enough for the Chelsea squad anyway.

Personally I'm not that impressed by him.

Isn't there a rule or something somewhere about players not being allowed to be loaned between Premiership sides or am I dreaming/thinking of something else?

Anyway the only loan signings I'd think to be brilliant moves would be for Jack Cork and Danny Rose.

I have a small head, crammed full of a fully functioning brain. Unlike you, who a baboon probably out scores on an IQ test.

I think we will make reasonable amounts of money available for the right players if needed, but it has to be the right players at values they are worth.

Under those circumstances I could see us spending two to four million in total, without too much problem. Doesn't mean we will though.
