Next 8 Games

by Big Ern » 05 Nov 2006 10:50

Well thant oxf*rd that we have got those last few games out they way. We have, on paper anyway, easier games now to restore some confidence and get more points.

How many points does the 'Hobnob Massive' think we'll get from this lot

Tottenham H
Charlton H
Fulham A
Bolton H
Newcastle A
Watford A
Blackburn H
Everton H

I think we'll double what we've got now from those next games.

That's very achievable and will mean at the 1/2 way stage we should only require the same amount of points again from the reamining 19 games to stay in the prem.

These 8 games are going to be massive, not least as we're home for 5 of them, No13 will need to be at their best which I have no doubt we will be.

We all know, Coppell especially, that these are the games which will make or break our season and with players like Convey, Kiston & Murty returning from injury will be a defining chapter in how we will do....

My thoughts are

Tottenham H DRAW
Charlton H WIN
Fulham A LOSE
Bolton H DRAW
Newcastle A WIN (If Roeder is still in charge by then)
Watford A DRAW
Blackburn H WIN
Everton H LOSE

Therefore 12 Points. As long as we are on or over the 20 point mark by Christmas, I think we will survive this year.

I would tend to agree with predictions in thw 12-14 point range. What is clear is that he next 8 games form one of four defining points to our season - how we start; how we do when faced with a run of games against "beatable" teams; who we get in in January (and we need to send some cash..) and the run-in. All this moaning about performances over the last month is totally misplaced. We were never staying up on the basis of results from those games. Whereas we need to get a return of about 1.5 pt/game over the next few.

For all the doom sayers out there: from the last "next 8 games"....Posted: 27 Aug 2006 17:55

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will be fine...Boro was special because the players recognised that they could compete at this level and we all got behind them. We were the better team at Villa and yesterday we lost to the team who finished 10th last year and were strengthened by Valencia and others. We should get 4 points off City and the Blades. As for the next 6 games we will win one (Arsenal?), draw a couple , lose heavily in one (probably Utd) and lose but deserve a draw in the other 2. Net result 12 points from 11 games a goad diff of around -2 or -3 and we will be 15th or 16th in the League with the new signings bedded in. After Spurs and Liverpool we have enough winable fixtures to be 14th/15th/16th come Christmas when we will hold on to all our current squad and make a couple of key additions.

See you all at the Mad Stad on 11/9 and let's back the boys!!!!!

---------------------------------------------------------

So, we have 13 rather than 12 points and are 11th (could be 12th by 6pm if Spurs take a point off Chelski) rather than 15th/16th plus our gd is -7. The real difference is that other teams have done very poorly around us..

Next 8:

Tottenham H Win
Charlton H Win
Fulham A Draw
Bolton H Lose
Newcastle A Win
Watford A Draw
Blackburn H Draw
Everton H Draw

So 26 points by the time we go to Stamford Bridge,a gd back to -3 or -4
and we'll be 11th or 12th in the table. After signing a couple of new players in the Jan window and with the Blades, Watford and Newcastle at home still to come we'll be fine...

We need Kitson and Murty back desperately in order to get more than 5 points between now and the new year.

We haven't beaten any team above us in the league yet, but we have beaten the teams that we have played below us.
We are 11th.

I'm very optimistic that we'll stay up, there are worse teams than us in the League and as long as we keep our pattern of beating the teams below us, we'll be fine.

Spurs - Home win
Charlton - Home win
Fulham - Lose
Bolton - Draw
Geordies - Away win
Watford - Draw
Blackburn - Home win.

I reckon 12 points from those 8 games.

Anymore will be a bonus; much less will be a concern.

These are the marginal fixtures where points outcome has to be maximised.

Tottenham H - L
Charlton H - W
Fulham A - D
Bolton H - L
Newcastle A - Agree with above, we have a chance if Newcastle's injuries are mounted up, so I'll go for a draw.
Watford A - W
Blackburn H - W
Everton H - L

That gives us 11 from those games.

Will be interesting if people are still predicting a positive result against Spurs by 5.45pm.
