How much will we spend?

by Diamond » 29 Oct 2007 13:48

given that January isnt too far away, and given that our league position is respectable compared to just 6 weeks ago, how much money do you think Reading will spend in Jan?

If our current form is maintained, all worries over the "r" word could be forgotten, making it easier to attract players?

Sensible answers only !

Personally, my view is in excess of £14m (not inc salaries)

Given you asked how much will we spent (I would be shocked with an outlay of more than £5 million), rather than how much would you like us to spend (I don't care, you can spend a lot of money and still be crap, Spurs, or not much and be good, Blackburn), I was a bit stuck!

I actually think we will spend exactly £5m on 2 players in January. Neither will ever get a game obviously.

Unless of course we got bought by a rich yank. Then we will spend £30m +. Of that I am sure.

Probably on the same 2 players we would have got for £5 million...

If we do get taken over I predict we end up paying huge sums for all the crocks West Ham bought last summer and now don't get to play for them....

£4 million absolute tops, especially if we are looking fairly safe as the argument will be 'if it's not broke don't fix it.'

I don;t know where to start in even making a guess. Coul dbe anywhere between nothing and £10 million.

We've shown we aren;t afraid to bid high and i think more bids around the £5 million mark are very possible.

But will we go for loan players to see us through to the summer if we can;t buy ?
Will we look for immediate impact or potential ?
Will Coppell have some low budget gems lined up or is this the point when we join the established clubs and pay silly money ?

Just no idea to be honest, but I'll be failry sure that there won;t be 'budget' set - if Coppell wants £10 million then he's got it....

I think that ammount could be debatable, but possibly not out the question

The amount spent will probably depend on who Coppell can get to join the club as he won't spend for the sake of spending. If he doesn;t feel he can someone who will improve the club, we won;t be spending anything.

I still think I new GK and right midfield will probably be the priority for about £4 Million outlay. £4 million is big money in comparrison to what we have spent in the past.

More that £5m but not by much. Maybe 2 faces, 3 tops I expect.

Also heard rumours about Hoyte coming here. So we will see.

It's exactly half the amount Coppell himself has said that he could spend if he wanted to !
So I'd agree it's debateable. It could be more !!

Just over £5m but whether that will be a net outlay remains to be seen.

Although everything has not been very rosy this season I am reasonably content. I would be very interested to see the net outlays of the clubs in our mini-league since the end of last season if anyone has it at their fingertips.

We are top of that table pointswise and I would guess that has been achieved on the smallest outlay by some considerable margin.

Okay we want to step up and get into the 2nd tier where we were last season and even the optimists (of whom I am happy to be one) will find it hard to imagine we will get there this season, but overall I am still happy that we are consolidating our place in the Premiership at the moment with a very prudent approach to spending in a pretty daft market.

Long may that continue until the time is right to push on again.

A couple of decent results around xmas time will be enough to convince Coppell that we don't need to strengthen
