Kebe signs new contract till 2014

by Basingstoke-Royal » 24 Jan 2012 14:41

Reading Football Club are very pleased to announce that Jimmy Kebe has signed a new contract until the summer of 2014.

Jimmy has signed the same contract that was offered to him a number of weeks ago, and has committed to what is hopefully a bright and ambitious future for the club with potential investment from Thames Sports Investment.

"I'm thrilled that Jimmy has committed his future to Reading Football Club," said Chairman Sir John Madejski.

"He has proved to be a great character and is very popular with the fans and I'm absolutely delighted that he's put pen to paper this afternoon."

Kebe, who turned 28 last week, was coveted by a number of clubs in this January transfer window, and is one of the best attacking players in the division.

He has thrived under Brian McDermott's tutelage, and has an excellent relationship with the manager, which was also a key factor in his decision.

"I'm delighted that Jimmy has decided to sign a new deal with us," said McDermott.

"He believes in what we are trying to do here and he obviously feels Reading is the right club for him and that I am the right manager for him. Negotiations have been ongoing for a long time and I am delighted that it has now reached a conclusion with which everyone is happy."

Director of Football Nick Hammond added, "There has been a lot of discussion, a lot of communication that has gone on over a period of time, which can happen. But I'm delighted we're now over the line.

"Jimmy is a very important player for us and it is great news that we will have him with us as we go into the second half of the season."

Apparently the clincher was when the club told him melonhead wouldn't be allowed within 50feet of him

Not the way the wording suggests it happened. Same deal he was offered originally, but I guess the prospect of new owners and not selling off players made him sign.

Hopefully he can get back to being 50% good now his mind is on the game.

He didn't want more money (good sign he wants to be here for the right reasons), he just wasn't convinced of the direction we're going.

That would up! :D

My first thought on hearing Kebe has signed the deal offered him a couple of weeks back was that the latest contract on the table was subject to the new investors deal going through and Samuelson saying the deal 'is the same one offered him before we were announced' has done nothing to alter my opinion. To me that explains why we suddenly made Jimmy a new offer.

Clearly an English 3 years is different to a Russian 3 years.

Great news though.

Now sell him.

Got the text about this. Great news!

I was expecting this news after it was mentioned in the UFRG thread that he was about to sign the contract, but didn't expect it to be announced quite so soon!
