"Big games"

by Super_horns » 09 Dec 2012 18:43

I wonder if we'll manage to see a big game (top 4 type match) finish without any negative incidents?

Alway seems to be something unsavory going on on or off the pitch.

Shame as the actually match was quite good...

My favourite unsavoury moment of the weekend was when Sky Sports News reported the Bassong racism thing and they said 'thankfully the player was able to complete the match'

Not sure Rio getting pelted with coins added anything to the spectacle.

He gets a life ban for something only one person noticed the player. And later picked up on CCTV. John Terry gets a 4 game ban still gets 100 grand a week for something far worse and seen by millions?

Tbf that's always been the case - Barton punches Pedersen in the stomach and gets a brief suspension, whilst the fan who ran on the pitch and knocked Kirkland over will never legally go to a game again (not to say the punishment for the latter is wrong).

Did anybody happen to hear Paddy Crerand on Radio Five this morning? Glorious dressing down of the presenters over their take of the Rio incident. Proper Glaswegian ranting and raving to bumbling polite yet out of their depth breakfast team.

I've met people like him in pubs before - and left quickly.

Yeah I wouldn't want to meet him in a pub, but excellent morning radio.

Nine people have been charged after the match between Manchester City and Manchester United on Sunday.

United's Rio Ferdinand was injured when he was hit by an object thrown from someone in the crowd at the end of the derby game at the Etihad Stadium.

Police are still trying to identify the person responsible for the attack.

However, officers have charged nine people, including one with racially aggravated public order and two with breaching a football banning order.

Two men are accused of pitch encroachment, one with a public order offence and three with being drunk and disorderly.

All are due to appear before Manchester City Magistrates' Court on 4 January.

Four others were arrested, including a 50-year-old man who was held for ticket touting but was released without charge.

A 45-year-old man was summonsed for a racially aggravated public order offence.

An 18-year-old woman was cautioned for being drunk and disorderly and a 33-year-old man remains in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of possessing a class A drug.

Ferdinand received a cut above his left eye when the object hit him as he celebrated Robin van Persie's late strike.

The Dutchman's deflected free-kick ensured United won the Premier League game 3-2 following a second half fightback from City, who had been 2-0 down at half time.

Entertaining perhaps, but Crerand shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a microphone under the guise of "football pundit" as he seems incapable of understanding the simplest things. Came across as boorish, bullying and throughly unpleasant.
