For me, Oxf*rd. Even though they hate Swind*n more than us. Swind*n's biggest rivalry is Bristol City, Oxf*rd then us. I've been to several games home and away against Swind*n and it is fierce! I've been to 2 home games against Oxf*rd in the past and feel the hatred is less that than Swind*n, Southampton is another i dislike most, that's my personal opinion.

I don't ever remember going to Reading v Aldershot, but feel, overall, they hate us more than the other way around. Fans going to matches during the 70's and 80's will know more about the rivalry

I found a little survey on the entire 92 league clubs on who Reading fans hate the most and vice versa, this was done in 2004, which is a far better survey than now. Out of the entire 92 league clubs, Bournemouth dislike Reading most, followed by Oxf*rd then Swind*n. Oxf*rd hate us 2nd most after Swind*n.

Reading fans hate Swind*n most followed by Oxf*rd then West Ham.

We're hated the 3rd most by Brighton fans, who are nasty bastards when ever they've come to the Mad Stad. We're hated 2nd most by Wycombe, who hate Colchester more than us.

Toxteth O'Grady (USA)
Ian Royal I'd like Aldershot in the cup, doesn't mean I give a flying one about a rivalry with them. It's a local team We've never played a competitive match against.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Maybe they are a different legal entity now, but I was mascot on Boxing Day '88 against Aldershot. I got to say, it was pretty competitive. Great over head scissors kick by the legend that is Micky Tait.

Yes, it's a different team.

Apparently we're Swansea's second rival! News to me.

Tony Le Mesmer I went to Aldershot v Newbury in the mid 90s. Big crowd for a promotion decider. Right on kick off a load of squadies rolled up to where i was standing, beers in hand, chanting about stabbing Reading fans. I did a poo in my pants.

I remember last season we played maidenhead in the fa cup and a load of reading chavy types turned up at the three guineas pub then the train station giving it large made me chuckle :D :D

To answer a previous poster, in addition to proximity, rival status also involves frequency.

Thus although Bournemouth's local rivals should be Southampton, they have hardly ever been in the same Division. Thus since we have played them often in the latter part of the 20th Century and are the next nearest to them, they sight us as their biggest rivals.

For the umpteenth time, whether we like it or not, Swindon and Oxford don't give 2 hoots about us. They dislike each other and that's it.

General B Most Reading supporters I know in actual real life would definitely still consider Aldershot to be rivals.

I imagine most of the dribbling spacklords on here would say something embarrassing like West Ham.

Oh.

Don't know how so many people on here got emotional over the behaviour at CrawLOLey yet wanted Aldershot in the cup!

I just don't like Oxford, Swindon or Aldershot as simple as that. I'd chuck QPR into that as well due to the deluded attitude most of their fans have that I know around here.

Oh and I h8 Celtic.... Very much! justsayin

That survey would suggest you're wrong. As would my experiences. They dislike each other more than us, but they still dislike us plenty.

Jealousy? Under Steve Coppell we were respected!

Shows how far we have come. Sometimes it seems we're seen as the epitomy of plastic football, new stadium, crap atmosphere, successful team. But in reality I think its just jealously that we won the Championship...

Neutral fans being those who don't hate us 1st, 2nd or 3rd.... so I suspect tens of thousands of aggrieved hammers are behind this.

It's only 1200 fans as well. Over 92 clubs that's 13 fans each. Wow, forgive me if I'm not impressed. 1200 Reading fans surveyed about something would be very reliable data as it'd be about 3% of our total fanbase. Of football fans in general? There are hundreds of thousands who go regularly and millions in total.

Apart from our obvious provincial rivals: Swindon, Oxf*rd, Aldershot.

The fixture I always looked forward to (mainly pre-Madjeski) was Brentford. It's a kind of Metro v Provincial rivalry, both clubs usually take/took good followings to each others grounds, very often in the same league, once very comparable clubs and local enough. My highlight at Griffin Park was the 1-2 during the 13 consecutive wins season (win no.7 iirc), Peters and Senior for RFC. They were well hacked off after that game.

Always felt they probably had/have a kind of more subdued (but still there nonetheless) disliking of us. And tbf, without SJM we would be the equivalent of them now.
