Church to Charlton?

by Alexander Litvinenko » 30 Jul 2013 14:30

Addicks fans seem to reckon this is a done deal!

He's been on trial with them, played in a friendly or two.

Powell said he needs to up his fitness before they'll consider giving him a deal. As he's been training on his own his fitness is far behind the rest of their team.

They are also trying to bring Ricardo Fuller back in.

I've always liked the notion of a player training on his own.
does he pass the ball to himself

Powell said he is way off fitness and needs to prove that before he earns a contract. I can't believe he's close to another Championship contract to be honest. Nice lad but never a striker.

Church to Charlton.

Church is being linked with Charlton and their supporters don't appear impressed.
How was he regarded by Reading supporters?

Like a keen puppy running around pointlessly and incapable of staying onside. Not quick, poor ball control, not good in the air, but has a decent shot. He needs double the time that a defender needs to tackle him. Most of his goals were 1yd tap ins or rebounded off him unawares.

That's unfair - i swear he scored outside the 6 yard box a couple times.

Couple of long rangers against Sheffield Wednesday and PNE, but everything else was from a combined distance of 10 inches from goal.

The goal at Leeds was pretty special, but he's a disaster of a striker.

Scored a great goal away at Palace too.

Mate of mine played in the Academy with him and Charlie Austin. His old man said to me "Church is a scorer of great goals and Austin is a great goalscorer" - sums it up nicely enough for me.

Maybe moving to a club in London's trendy* east end will mean him and Gylfi can live together again, thus rekindling the kind of form we all enjoyed a few years back.

I think he'll be okay for Charlton. They haven't got any other strikers, so he'll get games, which is what he needs.
