Pepe the Horseman He's not even the worst signing in our current squad.

I thought you said he was overpriced, went missing in big games and was too much of a liability?

No, I said "He's not even the worst signing in our current squad".

Oh right, well that stops that hilarious call-back routine in it's tracks.

Terminal Boardom Someone doesn't remember football before 2005. There have been plenty of shit players sign for Reading. A lot of them far worse than Drenthe.

I can't think of any

No - as a previous poster said - that dubious honour goes to Mark Reilly.

I even remember the Post's write up on it at the time "Kilmarnock midfielder gives up European football for the Royals!" "Blimey!" I thought "He must be alright!" I thought - guess me and several others were wrong - he was by far the worst player I've ever seen to grace the hoops - although Blackman does run a close second!!

You can take Dean Morgan and Paul Holsgrove out of that list straight away.

Ian Royal (some come under the magnificently shit seven) Peter Van der Kwaak, Elroy Kromheer, Sean Evers, Mark Reilly, Sam Sodje, Cedric Baseya, Brett Williams, Alan Bennett, Mooney, Marcus Williams, Dean Morgan, Stuart Taylor, Martin Keown, Simon Sheppard, Paul Holsgrove, Jimmy Crawford.

I remember Mark Reilly being subbed in a friendly at Farnborough as he was being given the run around by their midfield.

Mr ReadingFC
M Brook
Mr ReadingFC
+1

Only ever scored one goal in his professional career out of 31 appearances

Although officially a RFC player, he never actually played a first team game for us.

He made just one appearnce for Southampton as a sub but, famously, didn't actually touch the ball once!

Someone remind me how much we paid for him.

We signed him on a free but including his wages, i'm guessing it would have cost Reading overall, about 1.5/2 million

he was on about 2k a week. 8 months, say 35 weeks, and maybe 10k signing on, can't have topped 80 grand. Add on employers liability, insurance etc we'd be pushing £120-140k, max.

Danny Bailey.

Irving Gernon. (Apart from his debut when he was sublime.)

Steve Moran.

Elroy Kromheer.

Keith Knight.

Etc...

windermere_royal i would guess the OP is no older than 19, damn Royston doesn`t even come close to the worse signing ever.

Nope 39 and been watching RFC for more than 30 years. Consider his wages and a couple of goals and step overs. Not much else.

Lots of great Reading players didn't even contribute goals and step overs!

Shaka or Hahnemann for worst ever signing?

SPARTA
John Peel Worst signing - definitely not. Disappointing - yes. He scored, he assisted, he got us excited with his potential. Compare that to about half of Tommy Burns's seven signings on deadline transfer day or £6m worth of disappointment in Fae and Halford. The list before Drenthe is very long. Omar Daley anyone!???

Keith Scott, Paul Brayson, Ray Houghton, Michael Meaker, Paul Bodin, Bobby Mikhailov... we could be here all day.

Paul bodin could probably have been beaten for pace by a statue. Probably my second least favourite Reading player behind Mark Reilly.
