Fifa world rankings

by TBM » 17 Jul 2014 10:30

20th lol

England have fallen to 20th in the latest Fifa world rankings, their lowest position since May 1996.
The drop of 10 places following a poor World Cup means they are behind Bosnia-Hercegovina, Costa Rica and the USA.
Spain have gone from top to eighth, with Germany leading the rankings for the first time in two decades.
Scotland remain at 27th and Wales have climbed three places to 44th, while Northern Ireland are up one to 89th and Republic of Ireland stay 70th.

Top 10
1 - Germany (+1)
2 - Argentina (+3)
3 - Netherlands (+12)
4 - Colombia (+4)
5 - Belgium (+6)
6 - Uruguay (+1)
7 - Brazil (-4)
8 - Spain (-7)
9 - Switzerland (-3)
10 - France (+7)

How have we dropped below Bosnia, when they had an equally bad world cup?

Although that said, I just remembered they won a game at the tournament.

Seems about right to me.

But hey its ok, because 7 out of 10 times we will beat all those teams above us simply because we are England apparently...........

How are San Marino that bad? I reckon if they actually played most of the 20 or 30 teams above them they'd probably win.

That's the problem, they never do play any of the sides of their level, they always get stuck in groups with the bigger European nations and get whipped most games.

The sooner these sides have some sort of pre-group stage qualification tournament the better, as it's the only way these sides are going to get wins/draws/improve.

No, as they are not affliated to FIFA only UEFA.

I read about this. I think you need to be a member of the United Nations now to join UEFA, but Gibraltar got in through the back door because their application was submitted before that was stipul8ed by UEFA. Spain would obviously kick up a massive fuss if the UN recognized them but they managed to sneak in.

I think Kosovo is currently undergoing some similar wranglings. They're recognized by most EU St8s, but since they're not a member of the UN they can't get in. Russia, Serbia's ally, uses their Security Council veto to keep them out.

And let's be honest. If England played Scotland now, the score would be pretty close. Not a huge gap in terms of class is there?
