Do You Rate Chris Gunter?

What is your opinion on Chris Gunter?

He's a fantastic right-back, we couldn't have a better one (unless we had the money ;) )

Do You Rate Chris Gunter?

by IceIceGylfi » 26 Jan 2016 23:30

Well I got good response to my poll on Anton Ferdinand, so here's another player that has me and my mates debating about his quality. What do you think? (I know, the poll options are a bit strange but I prefer doing it that way)

I went for key player but really as it is he's top option because we don't actually have any other sodding right back.

True, I should change the options really, they aren't really reflecting what I meant

He's generally an above average right back for this division, who you didnt always trust in the feistier games. But even that part of the game seems better nowadays. He was also badly managed by Atkins, and prefers to play with Garath.

I voted for he's decent but has a few flaws as that could sum up pretty much every player in the squad.

Fair point there, however I think there are a few exceptions like Norwood and McCleary and even Williams and Quinn on their day

I like him.

Obviously has flaws but what right-back doesn't at this level?

We'll struggle to find a replacement that is just as good for the money we paid.

The fact he hasn't been given a contract is a joke.

Gunter is the prime example of the modern player who is a better athlete than they are a technical footballer. To his credit, he gets up and down the wing well and he is ultra professional. That cons a lot of people into believing he is a better footballer than he is.

Nine replies in almost two days (3 by you) does that help to answer your question perhaps... :|

McDermott says he wants Gunter to stay.
Gunter says he wants to stay.
No contract offered.
Gone are the days a manager got what he wanted. It's now the owners treating clubs like a game of Football Manager.

McD has only been back a few weeks. More pressing matters to deal with. Sounds promising though. As stability is what's required now.

Defensively adequate

Offensively wastes to many opportunities to threaten, either poor decision making or inability to stick in a decent cross

I cannot see us ever getting promoted with CG as right back

Not with Gunter as right back, no.

Has he got a promotion anywhere before joining us out of curiosity? He was there when Forest bottled a couple, if i recall correctly.

He's very athletic very hardworking and very well organised which allows him to play at this level. Compared to his peers he doesn't have great natural talent which is why his 1st touch is only competent and he won't beat a player. He's made the most of his ability.

Was only 22 at the time.

Easy to forget how young the current Reading team (and squad) is.

Chris has just slated lawrenson on twitter , as far as I'm concerned he should be offered a new contract just for that
