floyd__streete I'd always assumed this bloke was a wind-up created by some Hob Nobbing Troll

Respect to him for the lengths he's gone to to make it look genuine !

Puts the efforts of the other HNA trolls into perspective....

I remember when I first started posting about being a Reading FC fan in Los Angeles that a group assumed I was just on a windup as well. I am still here mother oxf*rd. If you thought mid-table mediocrity and a relegation or two was going to chase me away you were wrong. I still plan on winning the Power Ball, buying the club and replacing the Board with nobbers.

I think Tariq was at WBA game. At least he saw some kind of result on his travels.

I would be more impressed if he had managed to find a pub in Riyadh showing Sky Sports and serving Stella !

Slipping briefly into non-Reading fan mode here...why the hell has become attached to Reading?! I applaud the man but surely you'd have thought Liverpool or Man United would have had more coverage over there?

I have a theory behind this. He supports a team in Saudi Arabia called Al-Hilal FC ("The Crescent"), who wear blue and white and during their early history found patronage from King Saud Bin Abdul-Aziz. They are known as something of a Monarchist club and hence one of their nicknames is "The Royals".

This might be pure coincidence though. Maybe he just loves Reading FC and wants to back the boyz.

Where in Saudi does this guy live?

When I was working there I tried to convince a few of my Saudi colleagues to follow us, but although they're very interested in the Premier League (where we were at that time), they couldn't associate themselves with any team other than the usual big names. I do understand why he would want to escape KSA even to witness a second rate football club on a cold, dreary, wet day though...

I'm friends with him on Facebook and am in the Reading FC 1871 group. Tariq has a passion for Reading FC and football and he seems like a really great person; fair play to him for coming all this way to watch a shitty 0-0 and extending his stay to see the WBA game. I will ask him how he got into supporting Reading later.
