NewCorkSeth Sunderland got 105?? When and how did I not know that? I always thought Newcastle were closest and that they finished on 103.. please excuse my ignorance.

To be fair finishing 4 points of is pretty close so my original comment still stands

Sunderland did it before us in 1998/99 so Newcastle have come the closest since we broke the record

I was 6, was living in the countryside in Ireland and didnt support Reading back then.

I think Fulham had the record before them with about 102, from the early - mid 90s....

Can't find it on soccerbase, I must either be wrong or it's before 1992/93

I think the previous record holders were Swindon.

Delboy It should be the " John Madjeski Stand" in recognition of what he has done for the club. This would allow for the stadium to be renamed and attract a major sponsor

I think this is a good idea.
Let's not forget that SJM rescued us from becoming the Thames Valley Royals, built us a new stadium and took us through the leagues with his cloth-cutting approach. He and his team selected the right managers and instilled a good ethos at the club. Something which worked remarkably well for 20+ years. Under his stewardship we reached the Premier League for the first time and we set up an Academy to be proud of.
I think we owe it to him.

It will also hopefully end up being called the 'Mad Stand' by the fans when the Mad Stad has been renamed as the 'Ping Pong Arena'.

Yeah, Fulham got 101 in 2001... I thought it was before Sunderland, but just after.

Not sure if I said this already or on FB, but I would like the Brian McDermott Stand, just to let our owners know what a disgrace it was to sack him. Failing that, it has to be the Steve Coppell Stand.

The North West stand. Would piss Kanye West off immensely.

surely it's got to be an "end" rather than a "stand"?

Apart from the spelling of Madejski. And scourge.

And hiring Bullivant, Burns and Rodgers and selling to AZ.

Still, MadStand works for me though SJM never liked Mad-anything.

I stand corrected, said the man in the orthopaedic shoes.
My apologies. I got a bit carried away there. Indeed, Roger Smee was instrumental in that phase of the club's survival.

Deffo wouldn't want anything named after Robin Friday or 106 points. If the stadium is renamed then a stand should go to Johnny Mad. Also wouldn't want it named after Coppell, it's a bit like 106 points really.

There are more things you can name than just a stand btw, it's not either name a stand after them or they go unrecognised.

If they plan on renaming the stands, can they still incorporate the current names e.g. The Brian McDermott North Stand?

Also, naming the stands is a bit short term if a sponsor comes on board, We might end up with the Armitage Shanks Steve Coppell East Stand.

Finally, The current stand names are a part of our history - they might not be as loved as names like the South Bank or Tilehurst End but that doesn't mean we should abandon them for a get the fans on side/rename a stand stunt which is no more than this seasons version of rumble sticks.
