I agree with this line up but in a 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1 formation with VDB as the Sweeper between defence and midfield. I'd also be tempted to try Meite up front on his own instead of playing kermit

Too early in the season for chopping and changing.

Tell them to go out, prove Wolves was a one off and put a decent shift in.

Same XI

If we're ever going to use Joey in midfield then this is the day.

Al-Habsi; Gunter, McShane, Cooper, Obita; Swift, VDB, Evans; McCleary, Kermogant, Beerens
Subs: Jaakola, Gravenbech, Watson, Quinn, Williams, Harriott, Rakels

Surely we should be trying to settle with Evans/Williams/Swift as that appears to be Jaap's preferred 3? If one were to drop out, though, it would be Williams to the bench for me, too.

For me:
Al-Habsi; Watson, McShane, VdB, Gunter; Swift, Williams, Evans; McCleary, Mendes *(if fit - otherwise, Meite), Beerens
Subs: Jaakola, Gravenbech, Obita, Quinn, Meite(/Kermorgant if Mendes is still out), Harriott, Rakels

Alternatively I suggest we scrap this whole possession thing, and go with a counter attacking 3-4-3.

Al-Habsi

Gunter
McShane
Obita

Meite
Williams
Swift
Harriot

McCleary
Rakels
Beerens

I think this is the best selection so far - however, I'd swap Rakels with Kermorgant in the starting line-up simply because he is more mobile and gets into some really good positions. Deniss will score goals, regardless of his opening game wastefulness.

4-3-3:
Jaakkola - because he may be more comfortable on the ball than AAH
Watson - He may be young but he hasn't put a foot wrong so far
McShane - because he is reliable as always
Keown/Dickie/Jules - time to try a new CB
Obita - because there is no other left back at the club at the moment
Van Den Berg - for security in midfield
Evans - again, for security in midfield
Swift - the sole attacking midfielder
Beerens - on the right wing
Meite - can scare defences with his pace
McCleary - I would play him as striker because he is fast and he can finish

GK Jaakola: If Stam insists we are going to pass out from the back, I want the ball nowhere near Ali's feet
RB Watson: Deserves a chance
CB McShane: Of course
CB Cooper: Stam should at least try him in the league, VDB is clearly not comfortable
LB Gunter: Obita's been shit, Chris was more than competent on the left against Plymouth
CDM Joey VDB: Allow Joey to do what Joey does best, protect the backline and run around fouling people
CM Evans: Williams looked completely lost against Wolves
CM Swift: No brainer
RW McCleary: He's pretty good
LW Beerens: Poor against Wolves but clearly possesses quality
ST Mendes: He's not Kermorgant or Rakels

Subs: AAH, Obita, Keown/Jules/Hyam/Gravenberch?, Williams, Quinniesta, Harriott, Meite (to cover wing or striker)

Pretty sure me and maffff were joking but fukk me @ the last 3 suggestions.

Edit: Pepe's isn't that bad apart from Gravenberch who has played no competitive football and is apparently so far off the pace.

Yeh, it was either that or just play McShane on his own.

I agree with this. He is no superstar but at the moment his mobility would probably suit us better. Kermie hasn't really done much outside of 1 game either. At least Deniss has scored in a few games including the preseason.

+1 lure them into the weak centre, then surround and crush them
