Very aggressive from OP as usual.

They only get murmuring when they play it in dangerous areas which gives the opposition the chance to trap us around our own box.

Immediately before the international break complaints had quietened because we were playing it higher up the pitch. However, the passing at the back was worse than ever on Tuesday, like Rodgers/Adkins level bad and people got nervy accordingly.

Van Den Berg and his manager need to stop dismissing any complaints with "people aren't used to playing this way". The supporters are used to it with the previously mentioned managers and they've seen it fail.

Banging on about 'in transition' as if we are creating some revolution in a new wave type of football, a new school of thought never been seen before. What is the actual end result? Getting it up the field and scoring some goals, basically what everyone else is doing anyway. (And if this is the Dutch way - they've hardly set the world alight recently).
However I can see JVDBs viewpoint in saying we've got to carry on regardless, you've just got to bear with it-but how long do you give it until we see It actually bearing fruit?

I don't know managers such as todgers, twatkins and stam (yet to earn a bad name) insist on it 100%. It's great when a side plays good football, but it's got to be in the right areas of the pitch and suit the personnel in the team. I remember todgers trying to make alex pearce pass it out from the back. He was crap at it so we lost the ball and were 23rd in the league. Granted, Stam's players are more suited to this style, but many teams have demonstrated that we're not using it correctly (e.g. brentford). Even germany and spain play it long sometimes!

I like the fact that the manager has a vision as to how he wants his team to play, and that he is honest in admitting when we don't do it well and totally open with everyone that the transition / learning process will take a lot of time to fully bed in.

But I don't have to enjoy watching it in these early stages.

Pandoras Box (And if this is the Dutch way - they've hardly set the world alight recently).

World Cup finalists 2010 and semi-finalists 2014. Compare that to England... :?

None of Rodgers, Adkins and Stam "insisted on it 100%". Rodgers did at first but after about a month we were mixing it up much more. Adkins always had a varied style of play - remember, he got Southampton promoted by having the full backs hit long crosses to Lambert. And Stam's definitely encouraging the possession game but we've hit more long balls (over 25m) than any other team in the league. We played twice as many as Villa. Suspect a lot of them were between the back line but there were quite a few long ones over the top for McCleary to chase.

25m is hardly a long ball. A long ball will usually be in the air and hopeful. A 'keeper playing a 'short' goal kick will be at least half that even if the center back is on the edge of the box. Playing against us is too easy. Press high and feed off the mistakes. We're struggling to create many chances in a game (always single figures) and our forward players are usually isolated. I'm sure if we had 'better' players the system would be a lot better, but mid-table championship players don't have as good a touch or vision as the Ajax players he was working with.

I'm actually fairly confident our players are significantly better than Dutch second division players. If they weren't then we'd have signed a bunch of Dutch second division players.

I also think we do much better when we're pressed than when teams sit back and contain us. Teams should let us pass it around the back and put pressure on the forwards so they pass it back. It's only a matter of time before a defender makes a mistake. If you press the defenders then they have more forward passing options and the forwards have more space when we get it to them.

You're right about Kermogant's isolation. We need to solve that problem.

weve been flirting with playoff places, so after a complete rebuild and change in style, and after the last few seasons, id say fruit is already being borne

Fair enough, its a bit out of order to boo the team for trying to retain possession. Presumably though it is ok to boo Van Den Berg for being rubbish at football?

You're making out that he gifted Arsenal a goal yesterday or something......

We are invariably a better side when he's running things from his best position in front of the back four and I'm happy to forgive arguably our best summer signing for getting caught in possession by the likes of Arsenal.

What does bother me, however, is his assertion that drawing the opposition on to us is how we create openings.

It's all fine and dandy when it works but this is regularly, and increasingly, not the case. One trick ponies get sussed very quickly in this division and it is simply naive to believe otherwise

Thanks to our tactical intransigence, we gifted Villa their first away win in 14 months and had to rely on running bottom club Rotherham in the ground in order to gain 3pts that this talented squad is capable of acquiring at a canter.

While I'm pleased with our current league position, I simply don't buy the STAR sponsered view that we should all be beside ourselves with a mid table finish.

The fact is, where we grew accustomed to the likes of the 106 greatly over achieving, we have now suffered four seasons of the exact opposite and while we have made a better than expected start, this squad is more than capable of reaching the play offs.

Simply, we have to have a plan B that goes beyond bringing on a centre back to play up front when Plan A has failed to produce a worthwhile chance in the entire first half.............................we won't be playing Rotherham every week.

when we have decent strikers, and are still not quite getting there, i might listen to you.

to moan about the system and tactics when we really just lack decent strikers, is daft. imo
