Missed against Fulham at home - Beerens scored the follow up

Signed a new 5 year contract.

Big show of faith, not entirely convinced it's deserved based on last seasons fairly differing performances but hey ho.

Is a show of faith, but they obviously see a lot more of him in training etc than we do. Expecting a big season from him

Now need to sign up Obita for a couple more years as well.

The thing is I will say about Swift, is quite often even if he's played absolutely dire for 89 minutes, he quite often came up with a match winning assist or goal.

As you say, big season for him really expecting him to step up and start to consistently show the form he had pre injury.

Need to sign up Obita for longer, and what has happened to George Evans and a new contract? Seem to remember comments made some weeks ago that he would be signing a new 4 year contract, but have heard nothing since.

Heard nothing on Evans being offered one - his runs until 2019 still though. Obita's however expires in 2018.

Would be good to get Blackett, Obita and Evans to 2020 or longer.

Harriott, Mendes, Novakovich and Meite if they kick on this season too.

Just youngun's then.

But did you hear anything on Swift being offered a new one?

Wouldn't be surprised to see Evans signed up either now or early in January if his performances continue. Tidy player

Same with Beerens. The amount of points those two won us last season shouldn't be underestimated, even if it didn't look like they were setting the league alight.

Swift was terrific until he picked up an injury with the U-21's. His season never really got going again after that.

Hopefully we'll get a full season, or as near as damn it, out of him this season.

No - but I was referencing this comment "and what has happened to George Evans and a new contract? Seem to remember comments made some weeks ago that he would be signing a new 4 year contract, but have heard nothing since."

I really rate Swifty. He certainly scored some important goals during the course of the season for us. Did look a little leggy towards the latter part of the season however. Hope he really pushes on this season for us.

just flicking back through some pages as a bit bored. Sounds like we signed him on a 3 year deal with an option for a 4th this time last year.

Similar to Kelly sounds like they have just got themselves a nice new contract when they had plenty left to run.

Raises a few questions - i.e. have we now got the scope for a significantly higher wage, are we getting rid of a lot of the fringe players to free up the wage bill, and does this mean that new contracts are on the way for the previously mentioned Evans, Obita and possibly the likes of Moore and Blackett as well? No surprise Obita's agent or whoever dropped that little note out the other week about other team's being interested in him

Yep yep yep. Bit like Le Fondre too in some respects.

Easy to forget he's only 22. Good move by the club as he has huge potential - 9 goals and 10 assists is superb for a CM/CAM in this league - the only players who really have better stats are Cairney and Johansen from Fulham, Hourihane from Villa and Hoolahan from Norwich. And all of those are 26 except for Hoolahan who is in his 30s, so all are significantly older.

Goes to show what an important player he could be for us over the next few years. Having a deal this long too means that were we to sell him, we'd probably get £10m+ at absolutely minimum (most likely a fair chunk more in today's market).

Great bit of business by the club.

Strikes me that we’re improving the terms of all players of a certain age and capability, building a team for the next 3 years or so. Any player we now sign will need to add and improve the quality of the first team, therefore any new first team signing will be offered 3 or 4-year contract. If core players from our current first team were on lessor terms than any future first team signing, then the core may well become unbalanced and split.

also makes him more valuable to us in the transfer market should another club come sniffing around. Might have also had a buy-out clause inserted / removed
