Re: The Non - League thread

Were a few games played locally in midweek- didn't get out due to a combination of factors - though mostly down to CBA-ness :|

Most notable :

Mon
SLP Dorchester Town 4-0 Farnborough - the 'Daaarset' Magpies have notched 10 without reply in their last 2 home games; the delightfully named Mohammed Baghdadi has scored 5 of them! 8)

HELLP Highmoor/IBIS PP Binfield frozen off

Tue
FAT1 Chesham lost in their delayed FA Trophy Tie 0-2 v W-S-M
FAT1 Replay Brackley saw off Braintree 2-0 - and will host Barrow in the next round (Jan 13th)
Maidenhead Utd travel to Halifax or Macclesfield; Wealdstone welcome Hereford.

SLP
Merthyr 1-1 Basingtoke Town

SL1E
Hartley W D2-2 @ Uxbridge
Kempston Rovers 0-4 Thame Utd

Wed
WESS1 'Jam Boys' (Whitchurch) humbled 1-5 at home by Tadley who go top - probably temporary - have played 2 games more than Christchurch

Some big scores in the various Cup comps - Sluff hammered Wantage 5-0 @ Arbour in the B&B Senior. Slough now go to Larges Lane in the Quarter Finals
Other Q-F ties now decided : Thatcham v Woodley ; Windsor v MK Dons and Didcot v Maidenhead or Chesham

Banbury racked up 9 without reply at Oxford City Nomads in the Oxon equivalent - were some ludicrously one-sided contests in this round; so at least the Senior clubs seem to be taking it seriously.
- 'Puritans' go to Easington Sports (Banbury-based and now with lights - so could draw a sizeable crowd) at the end of January.
Other Q-F ties are :
Ardley Utd v OUFC
Kidlington v Thame Utd
Nor Lye v OCFC

Thatcham advanced in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup winning 6-0 at Pewsey on Wed night - Thame Rangers and Flackwell also go through.

Results from yesterday in NL – I’ll leave these here for you to absorb for a few hours before posting the next set of fixtures in a busy holiday period.

Sadly NOT as busy as usual this year – specifically the Combined Counties have decided not to have any early KOS this B/H and – even more upsetting - have left NYD as blank – so drastically reducing the scope of local ‘doubles’ which has irked a considerable tranche of us ‘anorak-toters’. I expect the players welcome the rest though.

Saturday 23rd December

NAT
Guiseley 1-1 Aldershot Town - injury time leveller (94’) from McClure at bottom club - or maybe Fenelon depending on which bit of the Beeb’s report you believe  . Guiseley climb above Solihull but with Orient’s surprise win at Maidstone are left 9 point from safety

Hartlepool United 1-2 Maidenhead United - double from Sean Marks keeps Magpies in mid-table – first league win since 24th October.
Woking 1-2 Barrow

NATN
Brackley Town 1-1 AFC Telford United
NATS
Bognor Regis Town 1-1 Poole Town
Chelmsford City 4-1 Welling United
Chippenham Town 0-3 Bath City
Dartford 1-1 Braintree Town
East Thurrock United 4-2 Whitehawk
Eastbourne Borough 1-4 Havant & Waterlooville
Hemel Hempstead Town 1-1 Concord Rangers
Oxford City 0-0 Hampton & Richmond Borough
Truro City 1-1 Gloucester City
Wealdstone 1-3 St Albans City
Weston-super-Mare 2-1 Hungerford Town

SLP
Basingstoke Town 0-0 Royston Town
Biggleswade Town 1-1 Banbury United
Chesham United 1-3 Hereford - 'Generals' concede twice in stoppage time
Slough Town 1-1 Stratford Town - 'Rebels' salvage a point on 92’
Tiverton Town 2-1 Farnborough
SL1E
Ashford Town (Middx) 1-2 Cambridge City
Aylesbury 0-2 Hayes & Yeading United
Barton Rovers 0-1 Egham Town
Beaconsfield Town
3-2 Aylesbury United
Fleet Town 2-2 AFC Dunstable
Hanwell Town 0-1 AFC Rushden & Diamonds
Marlow 1-0 Arlesey Town
Northwood 3-1 Hartley Wintney
Thame United
4-1 Chalfont St Peter
SL1W
Bristol Manor Farm 1-0 North Leigh
Didcot Town 0-0 Bideford
Swindon Supermarine 4-0 Cinderford Town
Winchester City 5-1 Shortwood United - hat-trick for Cox – City up to 7th but Taunton have a 12 pt lead over BMF at the top. Diddy in touch back in 9th
Yate Town 3-1 Kidlington

CCL
Abbey Rangers 1-1 Spelthorne Sports
Balham 1-1 Guildford City
CB Hounslow United 0-1 Banstead Athletic
Chertsey Town 1-2 Sutton Common Rovers
Farnham Town 0-2 AFC Hayes
Godalming Town 2-1 North Greenford United
Hanworth Villa 1-3 Bedfont Sports
Horley Town 3-2 Epsom & Ewell
Knaphill 1-1 Camberley Town
Redhill 0-2 Westfield
CCL1
AC London 3-1 Chessington & Hook United
Badshot Lea 2-0 Cobham
Cove 0-3 Ash United
FC Deportivo Galicia 3-0 South Park Reserves
Fleet Spurs 4-0 Bagshot
Frimley Green 4-1 Eversley & California – 3rd defeat in 4 for E&C, who drop to 6th in a pack trailling after runaway Worcester Park. FG sit just off this group but with games in hand. Makes for quite a decent rumble for top spots but at least two contenders would not be eligible for promotion to STEP05 currently - incl. the leaders WP.

Sheerwater 0-2 Raynes Park Vale
Staines Lammas 4-1 Bedfont & Feltham
Worcester Park 4-0 Farleigh Rovers

HELLP
Abingdon United 1-2 Wantage Town
Binfield
3-2 Fairford Town
Bracknell Town 2-0 Brimscombe & Thrupp
Burnham 1-5 Longlevens
Highworth Town 3-0 Ascot United
Lydney Town 1-3 Thatcham Town
Royal Wootton Bassett Town 1-3 Highmoor Ibis - welcome and rather surprising win for H/I – breaks a sequence of 7 straight defeats – still trail at the foot of the table but now only 2 points behind Burnham with 2 games in hand. Play their ‘lodgers’, Woodley next but in a bizarre quirk of fixture scheduling, not until the 6th Jan, during which time Burnham, for instance, play twice more? :? Highmoor/IBIS are now four points from the usual ‘safe spot’ too but everyone in danger above them, lost.

Windsor 4-2 Brackley Town Saints
Woodley United 0-4 Oxford City Nomads
- No change with the top four all winning – Flackwell back in 5th look out of the race now, Binfield gradually closing the gap on them but host ‘Robins’ on the evening of the 27th Dec
HELL1E
AFC Aldermaston 2-1 Chalfont Wasps
Chinnor 0-1 Wallingford Town AFC
Holyport
2-0 Sandhurst Town
Milton United
0-2 Penn & Tylers Green
Wokingham & Emmbrook 4-2 Bicester Town - ‘Sumas’ twitching in to some kind of life this season after a dreadful 16-17 – now up to 4th and if their ground upgrade finally bears fruit they’ll have an outside chance of grabbing a promotion slot. It may be too late for this season. Comprehensive wins like this over the leaders, bode well for the future.

HELL1W
Letcombe 0-2 Pewsey Vale

WESSP
Alresford Town 3-1 Petersfield Town
Andover Town 2-0 Shaftesbury
WESS1
Andover New Street 3-2 Romsey Town - ANS draw level with leaders Tadley who weren’t playing yesterday nor were Christchurch who have 2 a couple of games in hand. No games scheduled for this league until next w/e barring the ‘Island’ derby in the Premier, on Boxing Day morning, between Newport and Cowes.
Totton & Eling 4-0 Alton

Oh and "Merry Wotsits and a Happy New Oojamaflip" from all at Chez Foccers :D :D - happily my clan are scattering to the four winds (well mainly Bristol :P ) for Boxing Day - leaving me free to indulge in chasing a unlikely double.
They were surprised I didn't fancy Ashton Gate that PM and then joining up with them later but a severe drubbing there and time afterwards with my In-Laws is piling 'Sh!t AND Derision' together in bundles
Not many feasible combinations of matches though, what with the CCL decision (above) - I might well start at Arbour Pk at mid-day for Sluff v boro then who knows - doubtless the Orbital won't be (orbiting that is)
Actually found myself considering Essex as a potential destination for two games; then slapped myself when I realised Lakeside Sales gridlocks everything either side of the estuary from about jn 26 round to about jn 3. :|
Indeed I read that earlier this week, traffic in the region was so bad, one of the Essex clubs (Thurrock) postponed travelling to Folkestone for a Tue evening fixture, as they'd failed to exit their own car park!! :o

And on 30th I believe Bracknell travel to Highworth Town.

This could be Bracknell's season defining week.

Burnham 1-3 Flackwell.
Nil nil at half time. I didn’t see four goals coming at half time. The first half was a bit quiet but Flackwell stepped it up in the second half and could have gotten a couple more, Burnham’s reply was from the penalty spot.

Ascot 4-2 Windsor

Ascot had Ben Harris, Windsor didn’t. Harris who used to be at Windsor and captained us as a 21yo, but moved on to win the top league and Cup more than once in the highest level in New Zealand, has returned to the UK and is playing at Ascot for the time being. He would have loved to have joined Windsor again if we had paid him.

He should be playing at a significantly higher level and, by the rumours I’ve heard, shortly will be, at Slough.

Harris had 2 chances and scored both to put Ascot 2-0 up.

When he went off mid way through the 2nd half the game became far more even.

A slightly bizarre thing happened when another ex Windsor player Rob Lazarczuk scored for Ascot - he ran the entire length of the pitch and did a knee slide in front of us Windsor fans who were behind the other goal, saying, “that’s for the stick you gave me at your place” with a big grin on his face.

It was met with a somewhat stunned silence initially. Personally I’ve never liked the guy as although he is quite gifted for this level he’s a lazy sod and petulant with it, but he’d been at Windsor for 6 years or so, went elsewhere, came back, had a bad injury, the operation for which was (apparently) funded by the club, took 6 months to come back, swanned around the pitch doing fcuk all, then left again to get paid by Ascot. The “stick he got at our place” was nothing much more than banter so it was really pretty pathetic to celebrate in front of us. Still, it kind of sums him up sadly.

Ascot’s keeper summed it up pretty well when he said with a chuckle “non-League football is a very small world and you never know when you’re going to need something from someone so I’m damn sure I wouldn’t have done it.....”

Indeed I read that earlier this week, traffic in the region was so bad, one of the Essex clubs (Thurrock) postponed travelling to Folkestone for a Tue evening fixture, as they'd failed to exit their own car park!! :o [/i][/color]

I opted for a double of Billericay v Thurrock (1-0), and Aveley v Grays (1-1), and took the back roads rather than the M25, and it was fine (other than being stuck behind a guy doing 30 mph for about five minutes) although from what I saw, the M25 didn't look to have any problems either - at least not going. J25-24 was shut coming back, and the extra traffic on the southern section as a result, and the rain, didn't make it a fast journey back.

For all the understandable moans about Billericay, the ground has certainly been changed for the better, although a few fewer pillars would have been welcome.

Aveley's new ground has a lovely new clubhouse/bar, but the other three sides are as dull as they come.

Four Of Clubs Binfield gradually closing the gap on them but host ‘Robins’ on the evening of the 27th Dec

Sadly, not any more.

Game off, waterlogged pitch.

Running the length of the pitch to goad non league fans is the most hilariously tinpot thing I have ever heard

Bet it was awkward in clubhouse after?!

I did hear a great instruction from the Grays manager at Aveley, shouting to his players - "Come on lads. Keep doing the same thing, but do something different."

Coaching at its finest.

Not sure anybody stayed, haven’t heard anything.

They’re was a photographer at the game who took one of Lazarczuk as he walked away from his celebration - I’m in the background mouthing something with my curled hand / wrist on a big upward curve. Can’t remember what I was suggesting at the time....

Looking forward to going to York Road on Saturday which I am sure will be immeasurably more fun than traipsing 180 odd miles to watch a tedious, and ultimately unsatisfying, game of keep ball in Yorkshire.

Maidenhead 1 Fylde 2
An enjoyable but unremarkable match with Fylde turning it round and worthy winners.
Fylde were the more composed side in the first half. Rasping 20 yard shot shook the crossbar and in the ensuing follow-up I have no idea how they didn't put away one of the other three chances from 10 yards. Bodies all over the place from the Magpies.
Maidenhead won and converted a pen just before half time. Looked very dodgy to me as the defender cleanly took the ball.
Second half, Fylde stepped it up a deservedly got an equaliser from my MotM Lewis Montrose who showed real quality throughout in a holding midfield position. Maybe Stam should tell VdB to go and watch?
Jonny Smith was a nuisance throughout, too, showing pace, trickery and great movement across the line. He does look too lightweight to make a step up although Brizzol paid decent money for him.
Thunderbolt winner for Fylde followed by almost an immediate red for a second yellow - rightly so - and Maidenhead piled it on in the final five minutes to no avail.
Standout player for Maidenhead was Christian Smith in midfield. Hard working, looking for the pass.
I hope Sean Marks, the lump of a forward, was simply feeling the effects of over indulgence at Christmas because he really was atrocious - no movement, no pace and failed to win a single header - and the left wing back Kilman rightly got subbed on the hour for, errrr, doing absolutely nothing all game apart from spectate.

Windsor 2-1 Lydney Town

Comfortable win, but should have been a lot more comfortable against pretty poor opposition. Lydney’s ‘keeper was clearly MOTM and Kieran Knight missed his 1st penalty for us after at least 10 successful conversions.

Ben Harris has now left Ascot for Slough.

And rumour is that Matt Lench has a long-term injury and may be out for the season.

- Eventually bowled up here after failing to even get to the M25 in time enough to reach our intended first option in Essex. M4-M25 kfu(£ed – tried to avoid bottlenecks from jn 7-4B , by heading up the A404(M) but that was jammed from the Marlow turn-off up to Handy Cross. Came off at Beaconsfield Services and pondered options, even considered the game about to start the other side of the road.
- Eventually plumped for one with minimal M’way time (though reports suggested M4 was clearing eastbound) and somewhere that my mate hadn’t been to before. Dash down through a busy Sluff to jn 7 and it was mercifully clear up to jn 3 – nipped round H’row and arrived at KO. Didn’t realise B&F were also at home next door!
- Dull unremarkable contest won by a low drive through crowded box 1st half. Farnham slightly unlucky not to grab leveller but BS were generally too strong in important areas
- 3 points see Sports draw level with leaders Westfield, at the top, who have 3 games in hand

.... indeed and I'm giving some thought to schlepping down to Eastbourne for the Vase game - not been to any of the clubs in that town - I think there are 6 to choose from now including groundshares
