Reading City FC

Sorry if covered elsewhere. The new club (recently amalgamated) has just been taken over by a local consortium.

Great to see the Town have a second club again, and maybe one Reading fans will invest an interest in when they can’t make a Reading FC away day.

What's with the "City" thing? The kind of propaganda you feel could detract from events on the pitch.

Amirite in saying the buses have now dropped "City Centre" in favour of the more ambiguous "Central Reading" :?:

Covered already in the non league thread. Highmoor Ibis diced to change their name to better represent where they actually play i.e. Scours Lane in Reading

The City suffix is just semantics as while Reading is not an official city the fact it has a Minster does qualify it in some definitions of the term.

No amalgamation, just a re-branding, and no change to the number of clubs in the town either.

The consortium take over could be interesting though, although I notice that there was no real indication of what they'll be bringing in to the club so it could just be more hot air and PR. They'll need a bit of budget to compete at the right end of the league.

Heard a rumour of some dodgy money being pumped in from a former Hellenic league manager, absolutely no evidence for that though as far as I can tell.

I see Ron Grant's son, Nigel, is part of the consortium.

5-1 away win at the weekend and 4-0 home win last night. 250+ attendance. Decent.

Yea really impressed with the attendance for the game. Also it's £3 for a beer.

I'm going to see when their next home game is and go along. Maybe make it a regular thing

....might be a bit soon for you but there's always tomorrow (Sat)

FA Cup H v Chipping Sodbury - from what I've seen of them a big strong ugly unit from the upper reaches of the Western League - might prove to be a good test.

.... or next Sat in the league H v Fairford ... a game they ought to win comfortably.

... they're one of the regulars featured over on the NL thread of course.

...Well from what I could see on Monday evening they've not done too much off the pitch yet - surface itself looked very good but tbf Highmoor/Ibis had started to sort that out toward the end of last season.

...they had still got Becks Vier up and running tho'

...at a pinch it's preferable to Blackurrant Strongbow or Carling which I think have been the only other draught options - but agree not ideal - usually have a couple of bottles of vaguely more acceptable lager but expect better things will come eventually.

The bar there isn't exactly a great draw anywhose - and now they've taken out the comfy chairs!

Are they playing in the stadium or the pitch out the back?

In the 'Stadium' - if that's not too grand a term for it, in it's present rather austere guise. They are improving things slowly 'on the pitch' and creating a competitive playing squad.

The surface has been worked on though and looks fairly decent so far. The 'peripherals' will hopefully follow along in time - a full set of floodlight bulbs wouldn't go amiss, for when the nights draw in!

...as mentioned before they host Fairford Town this coming Saturday - be warned it's a fairly spartan experience for the occasional spectator; even compared to most other local NL grounds of similar status.

Like fukk am I ever going to pop along to support a Reading-based team with 'City' in the title. If even if they are right next to my allotment.

They could have at least done something sensible like call themselves Reading Athletic FC or something

Doesn't sound like a hipster club certainly. "Tilehurst Village" or something would've done.

They could have called themselves Inter Reading and started a book club.
