Who goes in January?

by Old Man Andrews » 28 Nov 2018 11:11

So I want you to be realistic here. As much as we'd all love to lose half our squad it isn't realisitically going to happen. Who do we need to get rid of and who realisitcally is going to buy them or loan them in?

Which players are offloaded in January?

What is a fair valuation for them?

What sort of club/league will the player go to?

I'm going to bite - McNulty can go back to Coventry or possibly a side in the 3rd tier of English football.

Nice try Clement but it's failed. Sort of like the personification of Club 1871

2) Vito Mannone
3) Adi Popa

Mannone - Any price, any club
McShane - Any price, any club
Edwards - Any price, any club
Popa - Any price, any club
Aluko - Glue factory.

Richards - Loan, League 1 or 2

Leaves us with:
GK - Jaakkola, Walker
RB - Yiadom, Gunter
LB - Blackett, Obita
CB - Moore, Ilori, O'Shea
CM - Bacuna, Ezatolahi, Rinomhota, Swift, Kelly, Meyler
FW - McCleary, Barrow, Meite, Bodvarson, Baldock, Sims, Loader, McNulty

23 man squad but light on CBs. A good loan or promote from within should do.

A notable lack of actual wingers but the club did decide to buy 2 strikers in the summer so it's our own fault. McNulty might be a sorry side effect of over population.

I suggest we save our money in January in order to buy Ezatolahi outright (provided his form remains the same)

Edit: Forgot about Harriott and Clement. Dunno what to make of them atm. Let's keep them around until the summer.

Goalkeepers - I think three is too many especially with the promising youngsters developing but Clement seems to be happy with three experienced pros so no change there

Defenders - Mcshane might go, although leaving us with 3 CB's is a bit sparse. If Obita can recover, Richards may go out on loan to a League one club for the rest of the season because he'll be third choice

Midfield - here is the problem, squad is bloated here
Popa - will go to a foreign team, somewhere like the Saudi Arabian league for a couple of hundred grand
Harriott - wouldn't be surprised to see him go to league one on loan/permanent
Edwards/Meyler - I think one will go, one will stay, again probably to a league one team, may sneak into a championship team (such as Bolton)
Clement - will return to the Dutch league for a few hundred grand
Sims/Aluko/Barrow - wouldn't be surprised if Sims went back to Southampton due to lack of game time. If he stays, I think Aluko or Barrow will go, one is completely useless who won't feature when everyone is fit and the other has an awful attitude, is severely overrated and is not liked by the manager

Forwards - think McNulty will go if Bod and Baldock return soon, he's effectively 5th choice striker now behind Loader, Baldock, Bodvarsson and Meite. Shame because whilst he does look a league one/two striker, he should have been given more of an opportunity

This is all hypothetical though, it seems unlikely we'll ship out eight. Most likely to go are definitely Popa and Clement which is a shame because I think Pelle has something to offer

I think it's about trimming dead wood.

Walker out on loan

McShane and Edwards. League 1 is probably their level now but WCBAP.

Aluko. To anyone, anywhere. Would absolutely turn somersaults if we got £1m for him.

Don't see a future for Popa.

NcNulty. I'm not going to slag him off as a player but if an academy player is getting starts ahead of him, you have to question why we bought him in the first place.

I don't think there's technically much wrong with the squad. We need a CB and a defensive midfielder. Ezatolahi could be the latter if he ever gets fit.

It's a buyer's market though and we're selling cheap tat at inflated prices.

oxf*rd knows.

What I'd like to see is:

Aluko, Edwards, Meyler, Mannone, McShane (lol his name auto corrects to mistake), Swift, Popa, Harriott and Barrow all depart, Swift and Barrow giving us a nice big kitty to bring in:

CM, CB, L/RW

Cant see Swift or Barrow commanding that big a fee. Swift is injury prone and has underperformed for almost 2 years and Barrow has an attitude problem.

Players out if contract in the summer

Blackett
McShane
Edwards
O'Shea
Jaakkola
Harriott

Plus Sims and Ezatolahi.

Of those, I think Jaakkola and Blackett deserve a new contract. I'd like to see Harriott work his way back into contention but he may look to rebuild his career at a lower level.

Offload in some form or other, if even possible.

Edwards
Popa
Aluko
Barrow
Mcshane
Swift
Blackett
Sims
Meyler
Mcnulty
Mannone

Bring in

CB
Lb
Cm x2
Winger

Keep the forwards as they are apart from that, until the summer as there are more pressing issues.

This will not be possible in January but more of a best case scenario.

10 out, five in.

Would look to get rid of, for whatever we could get:

Mannone
Harriott
McShane
Clement
Meyler
Aluko
Edwards
Popa

Loans for
East
House
Richards
McNulty

Would like a new CB

Happy with everyone else in the squad. Possibly new deals for Blackett and Anssi

As harsh as it sounds I am not convinced he is good enough to be our long term number 1. He is going through a great spell yes but we shouldn't over egg the pudding here by chucking him a 3 year deal or anything like that.

Well I think we should look to sell Mannone and let Walker and Jaakkola fight it out. Jaakkola is bound to be on low wages so a 2-3 year contract won't hurt us.
It also gives us breathing room to promote Southwood.

Edit: Oh shit just saw he's 31. Maybe a 2 year deal maximum.

If Jaakkola keeps up his form and place to January a new 18 month deal - giving a year extension and a pay bump seems prudent.

yep that. No rush to offer him a new deal, and if we cant offload Mannone, then may have to keep him at Anssi's expense

Need to get rid of at least 5 names to bring in perhaps 2 new signings In January, maybe a CB and winger?

Mcshane (league 1 club/lower end champ?)
Edwards (league 1)
Harriott (loan)
Richards (loan)
Aluko (just any club please)
McNulty (league 1)
Popa (abroad)

Wonder if we may potentially go back in for that Wolves CB Hause in January :?:

In Jan try to sell: Popa, Pelle Clement, Edwards, Mcnulty
Loan Out: Walker or Manonne, Harriot if fit enough

Keep Aluko until summer and try get more for him then, he cant really get worse from now to May. In summer also get rid of a GK, Barrow and Gunter

There might be a few desperate teams looking for an injection of "creativity" so might go for Aluko or Swift.

As much as I liked Swift, he started brightly but has regressed.
