Personally thought it was a poor performance from many, looked like a team that didn't know each other, or a team that had over trained physically. It was probably the most Stam like performance I've seen under Gomes, and really hope that's not the way we're going to continue to progress (slow getting ball forward, sideways defence possession).

Negatives, thought Swift was poor, slow, odd bit of class but not someone to base our game on, Barrow didn't try to beat his man on the outside from memory, Rinomhota not up to his usual looked like he;s been told not to play his natural game (was holding back joining the attacks. Gunter had plenty of opportunities to get forward but tended not too, he also slowed the game at every opportunity :( .The Subs, unfortunately I'd say Blackett and Loader cost us the 3 points last night rabbits in headlights the pair of them, couldn't get up to the speed of the game.

Positives, keeper looked composed and made a couple of good saves as well as multiple methods of distribution all done well, Yiadom played brilliantly at left back, got forward well and tackled, Oliveira good in spells, shots fairly tame at time, but scored his penalty well and bit of match sharpness that'll come, think he could work well with Balkdock. Miazga had his moments, looked better as a defender not so good passing under pressure but saying that nor was Moore.

I agree with Nailsea's assessment. I thought we looked decent last night and were knocking the ball around nicely and controlling the game for the most part. We made Bolton look like the physical, limited but enthusiastic league one side they are! How Ameobi is a professional footballer I'm not sure, his body shape looks like an NFL player running around, shoulder pads an all!

Our failing again was switching off and not seeing the game out. To blame young Loader is ridiculous, he'd only just come on. We had several reasonable chances to put the game to bed with a bit more composure when Bolton turned to hoof ball with three lumps of target men up front for the last ten minutes.

Bolton are going down, they played with two banks of defenders, one up front, and tried to play us on the break. They are limited, admittedly Parky can only work with what is at his disposal resources wise, and he doesn't have a pot to piss in. For them their best player was a 17 academy graduate making his full league debut.

I was in the Corporates with Bolton fans and believe me, they all said to a man that they would happily trade our team and football approach to theirs, and they are resigned to the drop and expect Ipswich and Rotherham to go with them based on their impression of us tonight.

For us, Oliveira looks a class act and with more first team sharpness will 100% keep us up. The new defender Maizga did well as did the keeper for their first 90 minutes together. If this current team take us down it will be down to lack of effort and nothing else as there is no questioning their ability in my opinion.

You saved me from writing my BFTG essay. I 100% agree with this post.

Was a poor performance and we didn't really get going at all or really look like scoring. Martinez, Yiadom and Oliveira were decent. The rest were pants. Draw was probably a fair result but still feel disappointed we didn't hold on.

Six Points have dropped v Brentford, Rotherham and Bolton with 90 minute plus goals conceded away from home. We also let a two goal slip at Blackburn.

Those eight points lost would make a big difference to our season.

Yep, been saying it for some time. Need to win at least half dozen games 1-0 away, but we're currently not set up for it, physically or mentally.

Injury time last night, we’re vulnerable to aerial attack: McCleary, Loader, Yiadom, Rino, Barrow, Aluko, Bacuna. 7 of 10, not known for heading prowess. Moore is only 6'1. We’re too short for Champ and opposition we face. It's folly and we're not playing the percentages.

Mentally, we're weak. Loader came on, didn't run it in to corners, passed to their defenders instead. Nobody feigned an injury, or won throws or fk's.

Watched Aluko before cross came in. Need energy, emotion, blood, guts, character, clapping, gee-ing others up. We're at war, it's cold, up norf, 2 mins left, crucial to club we protect 3 pts.

He's timid, picking his face, flat-footed, not on his toes, not alert or up for it, doesn't want it. You know he'll ball watch. Scorer makes a run right beside him, he see's it late cos he's facing his own goal. He doesn't go with him or challenge/pressure the scorer. He stays put, doing nothing. Free header. Goal.

Swift was meh. Missed header from 5 yards was glaring. Stiff and didn't adjust to it. Lots of drag/pull backs, after which the defender is still in front of him, so it produced nothing.

Felt like a loss, but was important not to lose, and figured on a draw before the game.

Ok everyone:

So the club has replaced the manager, it's spent money to bring in players in needed positions, it's got rid of a few that fans wanted out.

What is going to be achieved by moaning right now? Do you think the players will suddenly think "Oh, the fans are pissed, better start playing better"?

There's a time for expressing anger and there's a time for getting behind the team. Now is very much the latter.

To single out Aluko for the equaliser is a bit harsh. Blackett was doing squat on edge of 6 yard box, Barrow and Loader standing still doing jack. Rino come out to cover way too late. Bolton had 2 other players unmarked in the 6 yard box.
Who is shouting at these players out there, we have zero voice at the back to organise.

True, but just couldn't bring myself to, er, criticize the academy lads there.

Their equaliser was an absolute shambles from our point of vie
Don’t know how you can be so disorganised in that situation

Nobody marking the thrower, McCleary at LB, CBs nowhere to be seen. Awful.

TBF they're young and still learning
Brings me to a point of, is anyone actually scared of oxf*rd up? No one is getting a bollocking after they've let a man saunter past them.
Who is in the team out there telling people to pull their socks up. Stop skulking around and win a football match.

A big 10 out of 10 for the 320 odd other idiots who attended last night.
Great support on a bloody cold night.
I enjoyed the game and will not nit pick at the players.I thought they gave 100%.
Sure a few cocked up from time to time but they were streets ahead of Bolton.
With Nelson we may finally have that venom in front of goal.A good performance
from a player that has been left on the sidelines recently.
The quality of football is miles better than a few months back.Nice to see Gunter back to
his usual self

This is becoming like a record stuck in a groove. The constant change of manager has destabalised the club. There's no backbone to the team. Bolton are a technically limited side. Yet sit above us in the table. Likewise Millwall and Rotherham. The soul and heart isn't there any more. Buying a couple of league one players wouldn't go amiss. At least there'd be passion in the team.

Stranded
Snowflake Royal Oh dear. That was nearly good wasn't it. You gotta laugh though.

What was it? 65% possession and the Beeb notes Martinez made a string of good saves to keep us in it and we had less shots on target than Bolton despite the domination. Still can't play
out a lead.

No major damage done to our chances points wise. But that's gonna hurt.

Gomes now one win from 7/6/4 depending on how you want to look at it. Not looking great.

Martinez made one worldy from a speculative hit and hope that if it had gone in would have been goal of the season beyond that, one routine save from a long range hit and maybe one that he palmed away but was also routine - none of the Bolton chances were anything to cause any concern. So not quite sure where the Beeb is coming from there.

As for us, we played some excellent football at time, the way we played out of the press and then broke into space was a joy to see a Reading team do but the issue remains the final ball or finish. There were multiple occasions when we were breaking at pace but the wrong pass was chosen or the right pass overhit. We were so good at getting out of the press last night that Bolton stopped doing it as we were cutting through them too much.

I still don't know how Swift hasn't scored that header - 6 yards out, all he has to do is hit the target - it is misses like that that mean we are where we are and many more like that will mean we stay there. One cleared off the line and Aluko was unlucky that the defender just managed to get a slight flick to the ball else that was in the corner.

Oliveria was superb, lead the line excellently and if he were a little sharper then the chance he had to make it 2-0 would have nestled in the corner. Hopefully his muscle strain is just from a lack of minutes and he'll be good for the weekend.

There is no way we should have conceded last night and we need to get into our heads that from 88 mins if the ball lands at your feet around our box, just get it away unless a clear, safe pass is on. Gomes also has to find a way to get 95 mins of concentration into these players, the equaliser was a depressingly easy goal to concede.

At times, that match felt like a cup tie where a lower league team is at home, the opposition are just better but they are hanging on my the skin of their teeth - getting the odd chance but nothing that is likely to lead to a goal but still having the hope that they may nick something. The did.

This game and the one at Rotherham are the games that will kill us. Just taking these 2 games in to account, if we had managed to see out injury time then the table would look like this, this morning:

21. Reading 28pts
==============
22. Rotherham 24pts
23. Bolton 22 pts

We'd all be feeling a bit happier today.

As for Gomes, I'm not sure he's doing anything wrong - that performance was more than enough to win that match and we are honestly playing some really really good football - what is hard to countenance for is players missing sitters and defences switching off - he can and must try and find a way to improve both (sports psychology maybe) but if a player then plants a simple header wide or someone ignores the 6ft 4 giant lumbering into your box, not much that can be done.

This is all very nice stranded, but the end result is can't score goals, can't see out games, yet more individual errors.

The very hall mark of a relegation side is if/but/coulda/woulda/shoulda - didn't.

Gomes can make us as pretty through the middle third as he likes, but this team has no heart and unless the results come it makes no difference. Nothing that means anything seems to change.

If we were a horse we'd be shot.

Just to be clear. Gomes isn't at fault for this. Or making lots of big mistakes. But like those before him he's reasponsible for fixing the nigh unfixable. And he'll be judged as a failure if / when he doesn't create a minor miracle.

He doesn't need to create a minor miracle. He needs to be 1 point better than Rotherham, based on current GD, as good as Bolton and no more than 5 or 6 points worse than Ipswich.

Given we've pulled back 4 points on Rotherham in 3 games, jumped above Bolton and increased the gap to Ipswich by a point, he has us on course to acheive this minimum whilst also improving our style of play.

Wouldn't be judged a failure anyway. After all, heard in here that the previous bloke had license to take us down (which 'might be better anyway'), and to any division, so I'm sure we'd be fair and consistent. 8)

We've still Rotherham and Ipswich to play. That's an important 6 points at stake.

'We' is irrelevant. Get relegated and the owners are hardly going to keep him on.
