Four Of Clubs Results from NL

Waltham Abbey 1-5 Bracknell Town hat-trick for Ferdinand – Robins stay 3rd a point behind Marlow – but now a massive 16 points adrift of leaders HandY
- Bracknell travel to Premier division Hornchurch tomorrow night (Tue) for a league Cup S-F

Bit of a good result that at a fancied Waltham who were only a point behind Bracknell at kick off.

Expected H&Y to comfortably win that league and it looks pretty safe for them now. Bracknell on course to reach their target of a play off place this season at the moment though and the 8 teams behind H&Y are starting to open a gap from the rest of the division. Is it positions 2-7 that get to contest the play offs? Word also for Marlow - the other local side in the mix - shame they couldn't both be promoted via the playoffs.

Sutekh Bracknell on course to reach their target of a play off place this season at the moment though and the 8 teams behind H&Y are starting to open a gap from the rest of the division. Is it positions 2-7 that get to contest the play offs? .

As I understand it...

...there are four Step 3 divisions. Three are relegated from each, meaning there are 12 promotion places up for grabs.

There are seven step 4 divisions, so the winners of each division claim seven of those twelve places, leaving five for the play-off winners.

Four teams from each division contest play-offs within their division, resulting in seven play-off winners.

Of those seven, the five who earned the highest number of points during the season get promoted, into whichever league makes most sense geographically.

As things stand (a little misleading as clubs haven't played the same number of games) Bracknell would miss out

Bromsgrove: played 28, pts 62
Yate Town: 26/59
Runcorn Linnets: 27/55
Aveley: 27/54
Brighouse*: 26/51
-----------------------------
Bracknell: 25/50
Hastings: 26/50

* and they're a team of old age pensioners. The centre-forward wears glasses...during the match.

Sutekh Leyton Orient 0-1 Maidenhead United

Well done there. Didn’t see that coming.

Had a mate there who said they deserved it too. Real boost in their survival chance now!

In other news, how on earth have Aldershot got into their position. Would be a disaster for a club like that to be playing conference south

Royal Rother Windsor 5-1 Abingdon Utd

1-0 down after 10 mins but another hat trick from the prolific Dan Roberts lead to a very comfortable victory against strugglers Abingdon.

Sluggish start by Windsor and it took the goal to wake them up. After we equalised it was pretty much one way traffic thereafter. Abingdon still kept going but lacked any sort of cutting edge and were pretty toothless up front. Dan Roberts is too good for Step 5 but I think he needs to be playing at Step 3 to ensure that the jump up is not so great. Slough might be a step too far but what do I know!

NATS

FC Romania v Westfield
Hanwell Town v South Park

Tooting & Mitcham United v Waltham Abbey

SLP-C
Banbury United v St Ives Town
SLP-S
Frome Town v Chesham United – 'The Generals' now 8th on current form and unbeaten in 6 – hosted Basingstoke midweek, won 2-1 but still only 2 pts above the drop zone
Hartley Wintney v Tiverton Town – Chesham's win puts HW into the bottom three; they suffered a 3-4 home defeat midweek by Walton Casuals
Kings Langley v Beaconsfield Town
Salisbury v Basingstoke Town
Staines Town
v Metropolitan Police – Staines beaten heavily again,2-4 at home by Tiverton - if I've added up right that's now a run of 18 straight defeats stretching back to mid-November - when they edged Supermarine 2-1!

Swindon Supermarine v Dorchester Town
Taunton Town v Farnborough – on Wed ‘boro missed the chance to make up ground on the POs; held 0-0 @ Cherrywood Rd by Met Police
Wimborne Town v Walton Casuals
SL1-C
AFC Dunstable v Kidlington – vital win for Kiddy on Tuesday, 3-0 at North Leigh - with whom they swap places.
Aylesbury United v Cambridge City
Bedford Town v North Leigh
Didcot Town v Coleshill Town
Peterborough Sports v Bromsgrove Sporting -1st v 2nd though Sports have 3 games in hand
Thame Utd v Dunstable Town

- Aylesbury FC not in league action this w/e – either a fixture quirk or they brought their scheduled game with Barton forward.
- The ‘Moles’ have recently announced a merger with Bedgrove Dynamoes from the Aylesbury & District League. From 19/20 season they will be renamed (again) to Aylesbury Vale Dynamos. Remains to be seen if they will manage to cling on to STEP04 football though.

SL1-S
Bideford v Highworth Town
Paulton Rovers v Fleet Town
Thatcham Town
v Cirencester Town - Kingfishers stalled at Bristol Manor Farm midweek - went down 2-3. This included 2 ogs - according to their web site, both put in by the unfortunate Jon Beedon - though the League site had the ricochet for the 3rd goal, going in off Cooper-Clark on 92'.
- this could be a tough one as Ciren are the division's top scorers and put in another 4 midweek past Larkhall midweek.

Winchester City v Barnstaple Town

CCLP
Banstead Athletic v Knaphill
Colliers Wood United v Abbey Rangers
Guildford City
v AFC Hayes @ Westfield FC
Horley Town v Hanworth Villa
- Popped up to Short Lane (Ashford Town) to watch the ‘lodgers’ Southall stumble 1-2 at home to visitors Horley
- this is the 3rd venue (from memory) that I’ve seen them at, in the last couple of years - had a few terms at Hanwell and then a brief stay at Burnham.

Redhill v Badshot Lea
Spelthorne Sports
v Raynes Park Vale
Sutton Common Rovers v Camberley Town
Walton & Hersham v Cobham
CCL1
Bagshot v FC Deportivo Galicia @ Fleet Town
British Airways v Sandhurst Town @ Bedfont & Feltham
Chessington & Hook United v Bedfont & Feltham
Fleet Spurs
v Kensington Borough - Spurs stay bottom beaten 1-2 @ Kennels Lane on Tuesday by Chess ‘n Hook
Frimley Green v Epsom & Ewell
Godalming Town v Cove
Sheerwater v Dorking Wanderers Res @ Woking – Sheers leap up to top spot with a 3-1 win at Deportivo on Wednesday.
Tooting Bec v Farnham Town @ Raynes Pk

HELLP
Abingdon United v Flackwell Heath - Heathens rather stumbled last w/e but picked up an impressive 4-2 win at rapidly fading Brackley Saints in the Supplementary Cup. Doubt either side took it that seriously.

Ardley United v Shrivenham
Binfield
v Windsor - Windsor edged Reading City 2-1 on Tuesday to move up to half-way and above their lodgers VW on GD.
Fairford Town v Bishops Cleeve - having picked up a decent win at Flackwell last Sat, Town rather undid the good work by losing to bottom club Longlevens on Tuesday.
Holmer Green v Brimscombe & Thrupp - leaders B&T extended their lead at the top winning 2-1 at home vs lowly Tuffley.
- Brimscomb in a bit of a twist or bust situation – if they win the league they need to be ready financially to step up, as refusal could now invoke demotion to STEP06. Conversely were they to be put into Southern League One South, the current member clubs there, should not entail much more travelling than they currently endure – stuck out as they are on the western edge of the Hellenic footprint.

Lydney Town v Brackley Town Saints
Reading City
v Ascot United
Virginia Water
v Longlevens @ Windsor FC
Wantage Town v Tuffley Rovers
HELL1E
AFC Aldermaston v Abingdon Town
Chalvey Sports
v Holyport @ Slough FC
Milton United v Burnham
Wokingham & Emmbrook
v Woodley United @ Bracknell FC

WESSP
Alresford Town v Lymington Town
Andover New Street v Portland United
Tadley Calleva v Brockenhurst - Tadley registered a 2-0 win over Alresford on Tuesday but have shown a dip in form since the New Year, with 4 defeats in 8
WESS1
Petersfield Town v Andover Town
United Services Portsmouth v Whitchurch United

....and finally - with only my youngest lad around this week 8) - and he's big enough and ugly enough to look after himself .... I kept my habitual Half-term self-indulgence going last night (Wed), with a short trundle down to a STEP07 match

Hants Premier League Overton Utd 2-1 Bush Hill.
- pleasant set-up - cozy bar upstairs in the Social Club. Overton have managed to put up floodlights since my last visit about 6 years ago - not quite doing it on the pitch yet, though this was a welcome and hard-fought win over more accomplished and higher placed opponents.
- Bush Hill play in Mansel Park (Milbrook) - under the shade of that 'gert big' tower block at the bottom end of the M271; on the way into 'Scummer Land'
- Indeed their local pub is a designated So'ton Supporters establishment. They very recently withdrew a proposal to enclose their pitch with fencing - so maybe they are pausing their ambitions to step up to the Wessex leagues. Only started up in 2002.

Pondering whether I'm sad enough to try three-in-a-row tonight and trek over to Andover for an iffy Cup tie involving New Street's 2nd string vs South Wonston.
- expect I'll more than likely 'sofa-it' with a Curry, then fall asleep watching Chelski; having had a good LULZ at Celtic

Binfield 0-2 Windsor

Decent performance today and 2 more goals for Dan Roberts. Best striker we’ve had since Ben Harris.

And I nearly applied sun lotion! In February. Great stuff.

On to Tuesday when we face Binfield again.

NL Results from this W/E:

Saturday 23rd February

FA Trophy Quarter Finals
Brackley Town 1-2 Leyton Orient att 1563 :( O’s goals late on winner on 83’ – so holders exit the competition. Presumably the FA would like a Stockport v Orient Final
A.F.C. Fylde 0-0 Barnet – aet 0-0 – FT home side win 4-1 on pens
Stockport County 1-1 Maidstone United att 2585
Solihull Moors 1-2 AFC Telford United att 1577 – home side had a pen saved on 99’ , just after Telford had been reduced to 10 men.

FA Vase Quarter Finals
West Auckland Town 0-2 Chertsey Town - :D great result for the last remaining 'featured' club - put out the surviving 'Geordie Mafia' too - who were also the Bookies pre-round favourites.
- The 'Curfews' have now been installed as current favourites

{Today Sun 24th} Canterbury City 2-1 Biggleswade
3 Willand Rovers 1-3 Cray Valley (PM)
4 Northwich Victoria 3-1 Sholing aet - 1-1 FT - the Wessex club's exit ensures there'll be a new name on the Vase this year.

- So a county (Kent) with somewhat scant representation in previous Finals, now has two Semi-Finalists this year. They’ve actually had one winner in 99-00 (Deal) and a runner-up about 6 years ago (Tunbridge Wells)

New Odds:
Chertsey [11/10] ahead of Northwich [5/2] - with the two Kent clubs seemingly 'making up the numbers' [Cray Valley 7-2 & Canterbury [10/1 outsiders] .
- Semi-Finals are over two legs on successive Saturdays next month (16th & 23rd)
- unless Canterbury and/or Cray Valley get drawn with home ties for the 16th - when both of their 'landlords/co-hosts' respectively - Faversham/Greenwich - are scheduled be at home in the Isthmian League. In that event there's usually some negotiation regarding who plays on the Friday or more likely Sunday

Royal Rother Binfield 0-2 Windsor

Decent performance today and 2 more goals for Dan Roberts. Best striker we’ve had since Ben Harris.

And I nearly applied sun lotion! In February. Great stuff.

On to Tuesday when we face Binfield again.

Feel really bad for Roger at Binfield, they are on a terrible run at the moment. Hope they stick with him though.

Went to Canterbury City 2-1 Biggleswade in the Vase 6th Round. Played at Faversham Town. Crowd of 602 must have been split 50/50, 3 coach loads from Bigleswade.

Amazingly all 4 clubs still in started in the 1st Qualifying Round. Thats 8 ties to get this far. To put that in perspetive, a National League club would take that many ties to get to the FA Cup Final.

Also, 3 of the 4 semi finalists groundshare. So Sunday ties look likely.

I had a few quid on Chertsey after the 4th Round. Unfortunately, thats literally all I could get on. The odds are merely for show to anyone that doesnt have a new or losing account.

If anybody really likes proper grassrootes football, I have been watching a Sunday League team on youtube called SE Dons, they are made up of a load of Saturday Semi Pro/Ex pro footballers. Really good videos they have.

My son’s Sunday League team played a cup Qtr Final yesterday - the opposition are a newly formed team who have been put in Div 3 and beat us 11-1. They are on an entirely different level which is not surprising considering they have 4 players who play for Hayes and Yeading who, as you all know, are walking away with the Boston South Central League, Some 14 points ahead of Bracknell. (Don’t know whether they are 1st teamers tbh but they were plenty good enough to tonk us into next week.)

My son did not have a great morning. Blinded by sunlight in our road he clipped a parked car in the bloody chicane of parked cars and effectively wrote off his own, triggering an £850 excess, and he then did some knee ligaments during the game and is now on crutches!

(I was similarly blinded by the sun this morning - couldn’t see a bloody thing - but I had the good sense to stop. I’m sure he will do same next time...)
