The end of March provides a rich seam of On This Day memories. Though you need to be middle-aged to remember this. 31 years ago:

The scariest thing about watching that is that Ian Branfoot was 37 years old when he took over at Reading and 41 when we won the Simod Cup.

Great day out in a relegation season.
For those that think survival in any division is better than winning a cup final at Wembley-our relegation has long disappeared from the memory but that day never will.

The twists and turns of football:-
Luton went on to win the League Cup that season and played at the top level.
Since then they have gone to the bottom and now are destined to be in the Championship again whereas we have had the ups by having a short time at the top level but could once again be relegated to the 3rd level with, ironically, Luton taking our place.

I still have a hat and a scarf from that day!
IIRC, it was a lovely sunny day.

Didn't Luton make it Wembley 4 times in a year around that point?

This was the first time I got completely bladdered before and after a Reading game.
Boozy Mini Bus to Wembley. Pub Wembley High St. Pub back in Brackers after until I stumbled home in the early hours.
Unfortunately /fortunately (delete as appropriate) it set a precedent to this day

30 March 2002. A beautiful bright, sunny day. And a trip to Ashton Gate.

A 3-3 thriller and total carnage in the packed away end. A proper day out. Was that the day the Queen Mum died as well?

oddly there seems to be very little online presence for the Whiff. That feels like a shame to me - it was pretty frequent in the Pardew seasons and then under Coppell.

2011-12, the run in.

We played 3 other teams in the Top 4 and also Leeds in 2 weeks. Amazing scenes throughout. Went to/watched every one.

First up:

West Ham away. 4-2 win. Roberts and Leigertwood imperious.

Great away day.

wiki tells me

Vaz Te - nomadic - stayed at West Ham until 2015 to diminishing returns, then Akhisar Belediyespor, Charlton Athletic, Akhisar Belediyespor, Henan Jianye, Qingdao Huanghai. Not a loan to Charlton, went there and decided that he was happier inTurkey.

Sam Baldock - no idea, mate, retired and lives in a caravan?

Knowing our luck, we'd sign him and he would spend most of the time injured.

Tosser Nolan given it the big un after there 2nd goal..... Tony Gubba a soft penalty? Didn't mention that Kebe had smashed the ball in to the net if the ref had played on. And the dildo sellers faces was priceless. I remember seeing a picture of James Corden at that game giving it I'm a true ammer fist pump, even though he's from a middle class family in Wycombe. Great away day we had a few under Brian.

Always laugh at the Gubbster's commentary after Kaspars Gorkss goal: "...he won the air in the battle with Kevin Nolan..." :D

I missed Leeds at home by a week or so, but I got reminded that I watched it in this gr8 pub in Liverpool.

Tense game, goal disallowed before a Le Fondre double set us on our way.
