Just out of curiosity, can you confirm why it is classless?

Just a bit strange to me - the treble winning side, fine (and Liverpool's new kit an homage to their successful 70s team), but the 90 +1' and 90 + 3', refers to one game that if played 100 more times would finish differently 99 of them. Don't know about classless, just weird. Whilst rubbing in the faces of the current team, 'we used to be good' and ironically, not playing in the CL.

Yeah certainly odd, I can see that argument. It is on a really tiny detail on the shirt and wouldn't consider it classless.

I find it odd as it is a competition they are generally in most years and often get to the latter stages (recent times aside)

If Leicester did it for winning the PL in 20 years time I would get it, if Forest have references to their European Cup wins on their shirts then yeah, I absolutely get it, but Man Utd celebrating that seems a little small time to me.

Sanguine Standard fare from United - apparently the final design has '90 + 1' and '90 + 3' on the sleeves, and references the treble winners of 1999.

Seriously is that actually a thing or is just troll fare?

Just utterly classless in every way if it’s true.

Confirmed.

And at £100 a shirt  (although fans can get a “not quite as good a replica” shirt as the replica shirt for only £65  ).

Out of interest, how many other clubs sell an "Authentic" top and then also sell an alternative cheap knockoff?

Don't get me wrong, I always figured that the manufacturers would provide a higher grade shirt to the actual playing squad compared to what is sold to the public (except maybe Pelada), but beyond sleeve length or women's cut, I never thought they would have different grades on sale to the general public. I don't know, maybe it's common place with the annointed clubs at the moneyed end of the Premiership.

It's an Adidas thing. They do the same with Real Madrid shirts.

Not just Adidas, Nike do it with England shirts as well.

Standard practice in the st8s as well.

<Authentic cynic's hat on> So basically for clubs with a fanbase big and gullible enough to think spending an extra £30 on a shirt makes them a more authentic fan.

The more expensive one is supposedly the same material as the shirts the players wear and the other is a traditional replica.

Yes. Team Sky did it the other year with their cycling kit. There were about 4 different replica tops. Not that any of the cyclists I saw wearing them took advantage of the more generous fit of the cheaper kit.

I never considered buying a Sky cycling top, it's all a bit too "All the gear, no idea" for my liking.

I settled for one of these that fits perfectly fine and does the job for a quarter of the price and makes it perfectly clear I have no illusions about my ability.

How in earth did fans manage in the 80s and before, when replica shirts were rarer than an England team with silverware.

I suppose it was down to replica scarves and whether paying almost £1 for one made you the more authentic fan but then, of course, all the scarves were more or less all the same and didn’t get changed each season for the latest fads in trending marketing designs.

Part of me thinks it's because they can start selling the top from this Saturday as it marks the 20th anniversary rather than wait til August to release it like they did last year

Absolutely, proper FKW stuff going on round here at times. I think it was in the Rapha days too so even the cheapest one wasn't. My cycling attire is best described as what's the cheapest stuff in the sale that doesn't look horrifically bad. No amount of aero clothing is going to make me much quicker and definitely won't be pleasing on the eye.

WRT the whole "tiered-replica thing - i found this out to my cost on Jnr Braisers last birthday.

He wanted an NBA shirt of his favourite player and being utterly clueless I got suckered into the whole "but the next one up is the authentic material..." thing, and went from the Standard edition > Swingman(?) Edition > Authentic (but not phucking authentic enough, clearly) to the Icon edition. A difference of over a hundred quid. Lunacy.

In other news - that Utd kit's badge looks like one of the sew-on specials you used to get at Blackbushe Market.

Haven't United also got the season wrong to mark the 20th anniversary of their treble year? They won the treble in 98/99 so surely the 20th season celebration should be 2018/19 i.e the one just finished.

They are actually marking the year they didn't enter the FA Cup.

That reminds me of one time I was having a meal in the pub by Ribblehead station and a bunch of FKW's roll in and there was one obnoxious w@nker talking very loudly about his £15,000 carbon fibre bike. Anyway, all the wives and kids roll up in their cars, presumably to drive the pcunts home and the OW proceeded to unload an expletive riddled tirade in the carpark at his wife in front of all the kids because she had made the heinous mistake of preparing a protein shake instead of an electrolyte bottle for him.

I like to think she did it deliberately to draw the pcunt out in public and that it formed the basis of divorce proceedings.
