genome My favourite story of Deadline Day is Swansea letting Dan James travel to Leeds, agree personal terms, pass a medical, and then completely ignoring Leeds until the deadline had passed.

Incredible shithousing.

Couldn’t happen to a better club.

21 years old, one Brazil cap, half a season in the Portugese league. €50m. Football has gone mad.
Mind you, that's only €4m more than they paid for a then 16 year old Vinicius Jr.

They badly need him. Ramos is on the wrong side of 30, Varane is good but his concentration leaves a lot to be desired, Nacho has regressed badly this season and Vallejo has great potential but is injury prone.

Lucas Hernandez to Bayern for €80M. Almost double their previous transfer record.

Never seen anything from him to suggest he is worth that sort of money but I guess this is just the way football has gone.

Timo Werner will apparently choose between Bayern and Liverpool this summer. Sillier rumours that Liverpool could get Coutinho back for half of what they sold him for, if they want him.

With Robert Lewandowski turning 31 in August, would be a good chance for Werner to become the main striker for the biggest club in Germany.

Liverpool need to add depth to the front 3, but would Werner at 23. be happy being in and out of that team with a very, very good front 3?

If he was going to come to England, someone like Chelsea, Utd or Arsenal (if they lost Lacazette) might be better?

in the European Football thread 2 months ago Winston Biscuit Was listening to a podcast earlier and they talked about Luka Jovic of Frankfurt. He is on loan there from Benfica with an option to buy for just €6M. He is 21 years old and currently the top scorer in the Bundesliga. Benfica have been seeking legal action trying to get that purchase figure removed while Frankfurt are talking to clubs about selling him on the day after he joins them officially for 10 times what they will pay

Reports that Real Madrid have agreed a €60M transfer for him

never heard that before

I have always liked the story of Figo joining Real Madrid, and how he never actually wanted to join them at all but his agent signed a pre agreement with the outsider to become the new Real Madrid President which said if he didn't become President then he would pay Figo €1M. It was seen as free money by his agent because there was no way this Florentino Perez fella was going to actually become President, right?! Once he did win, Figo had a problem as the pre contract also said that if he tried to pull out of the deal he would have to pay a €25M fee. The story is that Figo went to the Barca owners in tears begging them to pay the €25M so he could stay, they laughed at the idea of handing over €25M to their biggest rival for seemingly no reason and said goodbye to him.

I think I would quite like it if Bale stuck 2 fingers up at Real Madrid and just ran down the next 3 years of his contract playing golf

Why not?

Once you've scored an overhead kick in a Champions League final you've kinda topped out, he might as well just play for the money now

listened to a podcast yesterday and they said Bayern Munich would make a lot of sense for him with them needing new wide attacking players, being able to offer fairly big money, Chumps League knockout regulars but more than that they said Bayern have a reputation of being the best club for injury prone/older players to go to as they have a different approach to rehab and a good track record of lengthening a players career

Only problem with that is, I don't think Bayern would touch him with a bargepole. Their plan this summer is to bring down the age of the squad - not sure Bale would fit into that plan.

The fact that Gareth Bale is now considered an old player makes me feel ancient

Tbf de ligt is an old school united player. Exactly the type of signing you’d associate with them back in the day. Hope he goes no where near that basket case of a club.

Now De Ligt and Van Dijk at Liverpool... that’s a partnership for the ages!
