Sounds a bit of 2+2 equalling 27

And with rumours circulating that key man Nelson Oliviera might be leaving Reading as the club attempt to balance their books, free agent Hooper may prove to be an ideal option.

And that is where I stopped reading.

He was always better in High Noon anyway.

Hooper had a trial with Reading and we didn't take him on. OK, so it was in 2005, but the journalist could have written something like "Reading reject Gary Hooper..."

not sure. Likely to want a decent wage, and not convinced he'd be any more useful than Bod or Baldock, who have been sidelined

Doesn't seem to have played many games over the last 3-4 seasons.

Had one long term injury which kept him out for 9 months or so but was back in the team under Bruce at the end of last season. 30 goals in 82 for Weds shows that if fit he is more than good enough for the Championship and certainly for where we are today.

I think its about 55 appearances in 3 seasons isn't it? 18 goals in that time. That's not great and he'll be 32 in Jan. 6 appearances last season.

I haven't tracked him that closely, and I know he was a good player. Just doesn't seem a great option to me. He just looks like Baldock mk2

Well yeah and I’d be up for it if we didn’t already have Baldock mk1. But we do

Apart from last year we had 6 apps at the end, he's played in 50% of available games. 47 and managed 16 goals.

There may be a comparison to Baldock but in goal scoring Hooper is by far better. He has scored at a rate of a goal every 2.3 games over a 450 game career. Baldock at 1 every 3.2 over a 300 game career.

only 5 foot 9 can he play the lone striker role... I'm not so sure unless of course, Gomes has a differnet plan this season.

Chronicle now reporting this too:
https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/spor ... g-reports/

Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has been in contact with Royals boss Jose Gomes and recommended Hooper

If true this would be utter madness IMO.

So we ditch McNulty, Bod and Baldock - who might not be great but are all younger to bring in a player towards the end of his career who barely played last season and is not a hold the ball up striker.

Must be paper talk or else those running RFC had been taking some funny stuff!

It's crazy isn't it. We have 5 strikers plus Loader and need to move some out preferably 2 before we sign 1, yet we're now linked with three strikers.

All the while, we have one proper senior CB and one proper senior central midfielder in favour. And we play one striker and two CBs and CMs.

It does feel very much paper talk. Doesn’t fit what we’ve seen of Gomes’ philosophy at all
