3points I would imagine part of the process at the moment is to look at a long list of players that are out of contract and agree between all the relevant parties whether a player could be of benefit to the team.

I’d rather take MM on a free than pay £5m for Pontus Jansson. I appreciate free transfers aren’t actually free as the player gets a decent signing on fee but it’s cheaper than £5m and not a significant difference in Championship quality, imho

Probably easier to structure a deal with a free agent to suit our FFP aims.
A player not currently with a contract might be happy to take bonus payments at the end of each season ahead of an upfront signing on fee, or a decent loyalty bonus at the end of the contract period.

Especially seeing as Janssen is a rabid lunatic.

Funny thing is don’t Brentford have a defender called Bjellend as well?

Janssen may be the better player but he's an arrogant, disruptive twat.

And costs £5m more than Morrison. Which was part of the point.

Good nutcase for £5m, or decent player for £0.

No brainer.

Not sure it was his intention to come here and sit on the bench. unlikely Moore of Miazga will be dropped any time soon.

After today...Moore might (be dropped)

But yes, expected Morrison to be a starter

You think Gomes won't drop a 'name' should they be playing badly regularly and we have cover?

I don't think Moore is close to good enough to justify being undroppable. Obviously not after one weak game though.

Morrison was signed without Gomes' knowledge and doesn't fit his style of play. Likely to remain fourth choice (or possibly fifth behind Blackett) rather than a starter.

If that's true we might as well give up, get relegated and go out of business now.

Because it suggests the club is still a shambles behind the scene and that we have a manager who is being undermined and will refuse to use good players at his disposal because they aren't 'his'.

For what it's worth, I don't believe this.

Heard from an immediate family member of a current first team squad member. Apparently when the news broke Liam Moore stood up as captain in the dressing room and asked why we were signing him given Miazga was on the way and McIntyre and Osho had done well in pre-season. Gomes said he was just as confused and didn't know we'd signed him until it was on the club website.

I encourage your scepticism- it's entirely possible that:
- Gomes was lying to spare the players' feelings
- Either the player or family member lied before it got to me
- I am lying now

I call option 2.

If Gomes is lying to spare feelings then he can just piss off now. This is the handholding feelings business. This is football.

Not sure I agree Osho did well in pre-season tbh. Looked pretty clumsy to me.

Agree Miazga and Morrison is a surprise given McIntyre did well. Especially with us still to bring in a proper midfielder who can play 90 minutes regularly.

But three senior CBs and a young player breaking through isn't exactly over stocked.. just looks it compared to a lot of our other options
