STAR Liaison
The Royal Forester
percy_freeman My daughter has just moved next door to Jimmy Wheeler. Before my time even but a true Reading Legend.

Ask your daughter to pass on my best wishes to him One of my great memories of following Reading FC is when he lead the reserves to promotion, and shouting "Up on your shoulders lads" and we chaired him off the pitch. That was the clubs first promotion for decades. Wonderful times. I remember a photo of it in the local paper, Probably the Reading Standard as it was in those days. Anyone got a copy of it by any chance?

Jimmy Wheeler was inducted into STAR's Reading FC Hall of Fame in March and was present to receive his award. We had a lovely letter from his wife Sue afterwards. Re the photo mentioned above there's a similar one in 'Roy Bentley's Stationary Club'.

Love hearing stuff like this. Makes you realise how important it is to treasure the best players and keep them part of the fabric of the club, even if they are long retired.

Waste of talent. He should be Championship level at least. Our club should make a tape of his career and show it to all our academy kids so they don't make the same mistake he did, starting with Loader.

Dont think we ever saw enough of him to judge that. Seemed promising in the begining.

WestYorksRoyal Leroy Lita has retired, aged 34. Neverlived up to his potential; he could have been PL quality.
He was PL quality..... with us!

Retired to spend more time making movies?

Listened to the Steve Coppell 106 interview on the BBC Berks podcast, Now I may be paraphrasing (feel free to correct me), But Adie Williams bought up how few of that team went on to better things (including the manager), Coppell said he thought Doyle and Kitson didn't fulfill their potential, Shane Long should be scoring more goals/hasn't developed as well as he thought he would etc etc. He did say he didn't think Lita would go further. Convey got a mention too, I think as someone who wasn't able to up their game. Worth a listen.

I do wonder if we'll ever see a Legends 106 team back together.

Very sad, hopefully he makes a full recovery as soon as possible. A player really we should have kept hold of as rated him at Barnsley.

Very sad news indeed.

However, he was one of those players who probably had to be let go to get first team football and progress as he did. The season after we let him go, we still had a pretty strong defending unit.

Tbf, he was playing for Torquay in the Conference not that long ago, so has risen up pretty quickly.

Callum Harriott joins Colchester where he has previously played on loan.

Hopefully he will kick on now after a couple of really bad injuries.

Incorrect, he has agreed to sign with them, permanently in January.

My bad, just saw he had joined them and assumed it was the usual Chelsea loan

Good move for him I think, they play the sort of style suited to him
