It's almost as if giving a manager a little bit of time can have a positive impact. No European football is probably helping too.Winston Biscuit wrote:nice little run they are on since 1st Oct.

+1, They finished 12th on 45 points under Steve Bruce. On their current form, they will finish with 46 points. That's after spending 100s of millions!!South Coast Royal wrote:Watched just the first half last night and once again Newcastle didn't turn up away from home.
I have said before on here how I am amazed that Eddie gets so little criticism for the performances of a so-called top club.
Newcastle are now around the places in the table where Frank, Silva and Farke all get heavy criticism but , despite spending big, Eddie and Jason get quite an easy ride, presumably on the back of them winning the competition where most clubs put out their reserve teams.
I wonder if the wealthy owners are happy with just a League Cup from their investment.

Loosely related - i know a mackem who is Sunderland fan and we chat football sometimes. He seems to really hate Geordies and his go-to insults for them always involve them having gravy down their tops, which makes me chuckle. I have asked why this is and he said its a standard thing up in the north east, Geordies just always have gravy down their front.

Until you live down this way nobody realises how intense (and daft) the rivalry and animosity is between Saints and Pompey which was originally based on the competition for business between the two docks. From Despair To Where? wrote:The bitter tears of indignation and envy.Sutekh wrote:What do mackems have down their tops?Winston Biscuit wrote:

They're obsessive about how irrelevant they think Newcastle are.

They say families can be split red/blue in Liverpool, presume that has something to do with fact the rivalry between the two is generally friendly and what a real “derby” rivalry should be, unlike what you get in Glasgow or in North London.South Coast Royal wrote:Until you live down this way nobody realises how intense (and daft) the rivalry and animosity is between Saints and Pompey which was originally based on the competition for business between the two docks. From Despair To Where? wrote:The bitter tears of indignation and envy.Sutekh wrote:

Similarly there is still some between Southampton and Liverpool for the same reason and it must be one of the longest distance rivalries in football.
BTW FDTW having lived where you are now for some time I guess you might still even be a bit surprised at the lack of intense rivalry between the reds and the blues of Liverpool, unlike in many other cities.
Those scousers are just so sophisticated aren't they.?

Wycombe/Colchester stems from them being the top 2 in the Conference when their was only 1 promotion spot - Brighton/Palace is a random one that even having lived in Brighton, I have no idea about.Sutekh wrote:They say families can be split red/blue in Liverpool, presume that has something to do with fact the rivalry between the two is generally friendly and what a real “derby” rivalry should be, unlike what you get in Glasgow or in North London.South Coast Royal wrote:Until you live down this way nobody realises how intense (and daft) the rivalry and animosity is between Saints and Pompey which was originally based on the competition for business between the two docks. From Despair To Where? wrote:

And are any rivalries odder than Brighton/Palace (still don’t know what that’s about) or Wycombe/Colchester?

IIRC it was something that happened during Alan Mullery's time as manager of Brighton and may have had something to do with a transfer.Stranded wrote:Wycombe/Colchester stems from them being the top 2 in the Conference when their was only 1 promotion spot - Brighton/Palace is a random one that even having lived in Brighton, I have no idea about.Sutekh wrote:They say families can be split red/blue in Liverpool, presume that has something to do with fact the rivalry between the two is generally friendly and what a real “derby” rivalry should be, unlike what you get in Glasgow or in North London.South Coast Royal wrote:

Not surprised really because there's no geographical or cultural dividing line within the city. Red and Blue live next door to each other or are related. Liverpool fans will tell you it's because they operate in a different orbit. .South Coast Royal wrote:Until you live down this way nobody realises how intense (and daft) the rivalry and animosity is between Saints and Pompey which was originally based on the competition for business between the two docks. From Despair To Where? wrote:The bitter tears of indignation and envy.Sutekh wrote:
