Reading legend Brynjar Gunnarsson has returned to his home country to take up a coaching role with KR in Reykjavik, Iceland. Gunnarsson was expected to leave Reading FC in the summer but stayed despite it being clear playing opportunities would be limited. After staying with Reading it was expected he might take up a coaching role here, but has instead opted to move back to Iceland where his family is based.
After failing to make an appearance this season, Gunnarsson's last game was the final game of the Championship season - the 0-2 defeat at Birmingham City. He made 5 appearances last season but his Reading career totalled 163 appearances, nearly a third coming off the bench, after signing from Watford in the summer of 2005. He will be fondly remembered by Reading fans after playing key roles in both successful league campaigns and FA Cup runs. No one will forget his part in Reading's famous FA Cup victory at Anfield in January 2010.
