Assistant manager Nigel Gibbs has followed Brian McDermott out of the club as the shake up behind the scenes at Reading FC continues. Gibbs had been expected to take temporary charge initially after the departure of McDermott was confirmed, and was one of the favourites with book makers to get the job. His departure means than Academy manager Eamonn Dolan will become caretaker manager of the first team. He will take training today but it is unclear if he will lead the team out at Manchester United this weekend as the club are expected to move quickly to appoint a new permanent manager.

Former Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio and former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo appear to be favourites for the Reading job immediately after McDermott's sacking. Both managers are currently without a club and Reading are rumoured to have already had talks with Roberto Di Matteo. Meanwhile Paolo Di Canio was seen at Saturday's game - watching from the stands as Reading were beaten 1-2 by Aston Villa. A quick read through the discussion forums shows many fans aren't keen on the possible appointment of Di Canio. Nigel Adkins is also being mentioned - and he appears to be a popular choice with the fans who see him as a good fit at Reading.
