Reading were forced to share points with Madejski Stadium visitors Queens Park Rangers, despite taking the lead through Garath McCleary just over an hour into the match. McCleary scored a spectacular low long range effort to break the deadlock, in an even contest, before Joey Barton equalised with a free-kick on the edge of the box with 12 minutes left to play. On reflection is was probably a fair result after both sides enjoyed some good periods of play. QPR looked like they might deliver another thrashing to the Royals and they might have well been a couple of goals up in the opening five minutes. The Royals had the crossbar and Alex McCarthy to thank for keeping the game goalless.
After the early pressure Reading settled down and finished the first half the strongest side after both keepers were forced to make saves. The second half followed a similar pattern before Reading took the lead only to see QPR share the points. Reading dropped down to sixth in the table, but are now a long way away from the league leaders after a run of just one Championship victory in six attempts.
