Reading's travelling fans have been left frustrated after a late postponement of today's scheduled Premier League fixture between Sunderland and Reading. The game was officially only declared off at 1:45pm - just 75 minutes before kick-off - after a pre-match pitch inspection of the waterlogged pitch. The late decision meant Reading's away supporters has already reached Sunderland and many were already at the ground before the news was announced.
Both team managers had been consulted about the decision and agreed that, with the pitch underwater, and plenty more rain in the forecast there was little choice but to call the game off. A key factor was heavy rain overnight that already cast doubts on the fixture - Reading fans may well think that after the overnight rain, and the forecast indicating more, it would have been possible to arrive at the decision earlier. After all the other Premier League games went ahead as planned today, the Royals lie 15th in the table with a point from the first two fixtures.
